CTF is a national non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of people born with Neurofibromatosis (NF) and ultimately finding a much needed cure. www.ctf.org
About Neurofibromatosis NF causes tumors to grow on nerves anywhere in the body at any time. It can cause blindness, brain and spinal tumors, deafness, chronic pain, disfigurement, learning disabilities, bone defects, cancer and a variety of other complications.
NF is a genetic disorder and affects 1 in every 3,000 births and is more prevalent than cysitc fibrosis, inherited muscular dystrophy, Huntington's disease and Tay Sachs combined. It affects all races and ethnic origins, and 1/2 of all cases arise in families with no history of the disorder. NF can occur in any family.

Paperweight Jewelry (September 6, 2002)This jewelry features flowers or scenes under glass. The pins are usually framed in brass or nickel silver. Some of the finer ones are sterling and some are bakelite. The backgrounds can be thin metallic foil paper (typical) or mother of pearl (older). I seldom find these pins in excellent condition. Generally, they are cheaply made and were never meant to outlive their original owners.
Butterfly wing jewelry is similar and has domed glass that is often reverse painted by hand. Actual wings from butterflies are used as the backgrounds. The last pictures in this album are butterfly wing pins. |

First Unitarian Society of Madison WI (November 18, 2009)The Unitarian Meeting House This architectural treasure was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, a member of the congregation, and was completed in 1951.
Members of the congregation(affectionately remembered as "The Stonehaulers") trucked and carried limestone from a quarry 30 miles away and performed numerous other tasks in order to defray expenses and assist construction. Some women in the congregation hauled stone while others wove beautiful curtains which originally separated the Auditorium proper from the Hearth Room.
The Unitarian Meeting House was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973. Two major additions were designed by Taliesin Associated Architects: a religious education wing, built in 1964, and the Lower Meeting House, built in 1990. The Meeting House was declared as a National Historic Landmark in 2004 by the National Park Service. |
