HOOVER DAM TRIP - NOVEMBER 2012
602.HOOVER DAM TRIP - NOVEMBER 2012
Almost exactly 2 years after it opened, we finally managed to get away to see the Hoover Dam Memorial Bridge, named for Mike O'Callaghan and Pat Tillman.

These images start with our drive to Henderson, NV, our day trip to the Hoover Dam, a brief tour of the Las Vegas Strip, and travel home on I-15.

Photo sites of the bridge are limited to several turnouts on the Arizona side of the Dam, otherwise it would be necessary to rent a helicopter for perfectly composed images.  Heavy security dictates no stopping/parking on the dam.

Permission is granted to save/print any image for personal use.  If used in a publication credit "Photo by B.B. Yarborough."

Naturescape
605.Naturescape
Rio Tinto Naturescape Kings Park is a place for children to connect with nature and learn to appreciate the unique Western Australian environment.
It is a place to explore, climb rocks and ropes, wade through creeks, build cubbies and get dirty. This area is not a playground or picnic area. It has been designed to retain as much of its natural bush setting as possible. Great care has been taken to provide children with a real ‘bush’ experience in the middle of the city of Perth.

Chester
606.Chester

Chester's Photoblog -- Chester is a Toy Poodle, born in Western Australia on 25 May 2011. As soon as I saw that Chester needed to be re-homed, I knew that he would make a good playmate for my Miniature Poodle, Dusty, who has been lonely since the passing of Clancy. My application was successful, and Chester came to live with us on 08 August 2012. Dusty and Chester immediately became friends and it is rewarding to see them both so happy as they play together.

The images in Chester's album will be updated over time to record his life's events and are in reverse order so that the newest are at the beginning.

Waroona Dam
607.Waroona Dam
Visit Waroona Dam which was built on the Drakes Brook, with construction completed in 1966. The reservoir known as Lake Navarino covers an area of 145 hectares with its primary use being irrigation. It is also used extensively for recreational activities such as water skiing and freshwater fishing. The surrounding forest provides beautiful displays of wildflowers in season. Bush walking is a popular pastime for many visitors and part of the old Bibbulmun Track is still in existence and has been reopened for public use as part of the Munda Biddi Trail.  Dogs on leash allowed.

Bushfires
608.Bushfires

Bushfires have a devastating effect on the natural vegetation of the Australian Bush. An area of about 5 hectares was burnt in Perth's popular Kings Park on 16 January 2009. Sadly, this is believed to be the work of an arsonist. Seven weeks later, I returned to Kings Park to view the aftermath of this fire and it is sad to see the extensive loss of vegetation and habitat. One year has now elapsed since the bushfire and a return visit brings new photos to show how the vegetation is coping with the struggle for survival. Area re-visited in September 2010 and additional photos show regrowth following a dry winter with very cold nights, 20 months after the Bushfire. Re-visited the area again in August 2012 and an additional twelve photos show the regeneration that has occurred over three and a half years since the devasting bushfire.

Kings Park Festival 2012
609.Kings Park Festival 2012
The annual Kings Park Festival is a magnificent display of the unique Wildflowers of Western Australia. Enjoy the variety, colour and beauty captured in these Wildflower images, as well as wildlife and a few scenes of interest that captured my attention as I enjoyed walking the many pathways in Kings Park.
