They have friends that come from all over the place like Montana, Minnesota, Georgia, Canada, California. They are usually big trips, and both Ian and Aaron usually also go, along with several of there friends, too. It's great that they can all hang together! |

The Hut / My “Tiny Home” (September 17, 2019)My dad had an old green house that the hail had destroyed. He tried to give it away to anyone that would dismantle it and haul it off his property. Several people spoke for it, but no one came through. I finally looked at it and saw a hunting shack hiding under the broken corrugated plastic. A month and a half later and a few thousand dollars and I now have a new hunting shack....The Hut. This allows me to not have my travel trailer tied up at the deer lease all fall, winter, and spring. Now I can take my travel trailer to shooting events, out of state hunts, etc., during the fall, winter, or spring. Plus I won’t be sweating the possibility of a range fire destroying the trailer. I do have electricity so it’s got a refrigerator, microwave, toaster oven, coffee pot, air conditioner, and electric heater. To avoid winter freeze ups there is no plumbing, just a 33 gallon water barrel with a hand pump. If I need hot water it’s heated in a tea kettle on the 2 burner Coleman propane stove. Sink water drains directly into a 5 gallon bucket and is just emptied as needed. The toilet is an extra nice little Porta Potty with “electric flush”. In the winter all I have to do is put the pink RV antifreeze in the fresh water tank of the potty so nothing will freeze. It’s a really open little building with no place for mice to hide and nest. Hopefully I built it tight enough that the mice can’t get inside in the first place. The exterior is all metal roofing material. The frame is 1” square aluminum tubing. The floor is plywood and the floor joists are redwood 2x6’s. It is insulated with 1” thick R-Tech Insul Foam. Since most of the time the Hut will be unoccupied and the front door is only a storm door, I installed a bear door on the front door and the rear window. No there are no bears at Dickens, there are severe wind and hail storms, racoons, and wild hogs. It’s the nearest I’ll ever get to living in a “Tiny Home”. |
