DUNNOTTAR CASTLE (on the NE coast of scotland)We only stopped for a short while to photograph this castle. We were there too late to visit since it was closed. It is located in one of the most interesting spots as you can see. If you click on the map below and choose "original size" you can read about the castle and see what is there too. HUNTINGTOWER CASTLE (near Perth) This castle is a small lesser known castle but very nice. It is located in Perth. We were also treated to a special event taking place when we visited. They had a wedding just finishing up. It was great to see them all dressed up in traditional scottish dress. (see the next album of ours to see some of the photos of the wedding)

Bulgaria and Romania (October 1 - 13, 2013)| When GoAhead announced this "new" trip, I signed up. My usual travel partners could not be enticed to visit this part of the world. Why Bulgaria and Romania? Well, I had never been there, so why not? Maybe I'll meet Dracula. That of course did not happen, but it was a great itinerary anyway. |

Uzbekistan 2013 (October 2013)Once we landed in Tashkent and traded in our dollars for a suitcase full of soms, we were ready to tackle Uzbekistan's Silk Road.
First stop - Samarkand. The Registan and Shah-I Zinda are its star attractions but tearing into a loaf of Samarkand bread is a close second. We then headed to Bukhara via an overnight stop at a homestay in the Nurata mountains and another night nestled down in a yurt camp near Lake Aydarkul.
Bukhara, one of Uzbekistan's ancient walled cities, was next on our list. From there we went northwest to Khiva - another walled city inches away from the Turkmenistan border. Trips to the crumbling desert forts in the Karakalpakstan autonomous region of Uzbekistan and the Igor Savitsky Museum in Nukus occupied many of our Khiva days. |
