411.Guatemala 2008Fourteen years and one civil war have passed since our first visit to Guatemala. What's changed? Well, we've changed: grown older, less agile and more circumspect. But how has Guatemala changed?
Antigua is still one of the most beautiful towns in all of Latin America. Its magnificent volcano-ringed setting - nature's own blue-screen backdrop - easily dominates even the most hapless of snapshots. Chichicastenango and the Highlands are still struggling to move forward while clutching the past. And Lake Atitlan. Ah, Lake Atitlan - where you could lose your entire vacation and not even care. It's that good.
The roads may have gotten a bit smoother
and creature comforts more commonplace but its indigenous culture and scenery remain undiminished. In our minds, it still retains the title of the most fascinating and diverse country in Central America.
