 | 2671.Coronado, CASan Diego, CA and Coronado, the island across the harbor from the city, are primarily Navy towns. The weather and natural beauty of the area probably accounts for it also being a major tourist attraction. In our short visit we hardly touched the surface of all the city has to offer, such as a world class zoo, dining, beach resorts, golf, etc., but hopefully these images will provide a sample of the huge appeal that invites visitors to the greater San Diego area. | |

| 2678.Antietam/ Sharpsburg 2002The 140th Anniversary of the Battle of Antietam/Sharpsburg. This reenactment was held in Maryland attended by approx. 14,000 reenactors. Photo's are of Friday and Saturday's battles. When not "sneaking" photos I participated as a member of CoH 1st Maryland, CSA 6th Bn 1st Division. Enjoy the photos everyone!

Created by Yoneguma and Kiyoka Takahashi, these marvelous wood birds are miniature works of art. The Takahashi family were among many Japanese-Americans confined in Poston Camp, AZ after the bombing of Pearl Harbor.
While in the camp, they participated in a craft class where they learned to carve and paint small birds and after release (3 1/2 years later) they turned this craft into a family business that continued for 40 years.
Yoneguma carved the birds out of white holly wood, starting with a jig saw, then smoothing and sanding the bird. When done, Kiyoka painted the birds (using an Audubon bird book for reference) with watercolors using fine camel hair brushes. 10 coats of lacquer were then applied.
A good day's production was 10 birds. The birds were mostly sold via word of mouth, though a couple of department stores (such as Gump's) carried them. Production was mostly lapel pins, but earrings were also made. Price on the birds in the early days was $2, but in the 1980s, the birds sold for $40.
Initially more than 100 species were made, both male and female, but eventually about 25 different birds were offered regularly for sale.
Some birds created before the 1970s have the initials K.T.; after 1970, the initials K&Y.T. with the date appear. Some are dated without initials.
There were copies made in the 1970s; these can most easily be identified by the manner in which the pin was attached. The Takahashi birds use small push pins while the repro pin backs are screwed into the wood. | |

| 2684.Our Kennel Set - UpFrom Dec. '04 - May '06, we did a complete change in our kennels. We had a few with genetic problems & a few that simply would not care for there wee ones from the time they began to whelp. This also gave us a chance to redo our kennels. All of our kennels are about 1 ft off the ground,we do have a bigger pen,that's on the ground like an exercise pen .
Since we lost our vehicles & our home we had to move,to our current location on Jun 30,08.
I have placed pictures,for you to see our set-up. Every summer it seems that we remodeling our kenneling system. Hopefully summer 2010, we will be adding more kenneling and pens in our shed. I only hope that some day we can afford to give them extra heat during the winter and A/C during the summer. All the kenneling are surrounded with sheds & plenty of trees this helps for wind breakage during the winter. I have found it easier on everyone this past winter'08/'09, then in the previous years.
Every morning, I'm outside hosing down kennels & feeding everyone, water buckets are scrubbed as needed, do to algie/lime coming from the water. The pens are scrubbed down as needed as well..
I would love to have a better set-up then we have,but this will have to do for now.
All the puppies are fed Purina & the adults Retriever...
NOTE: Summer of 2010 we sold out our shetland sheepdogs & as well as found homes for some of our adults labs, that were unable to pass hip/OFA & CERF/eye exams... The kennels you see are in the same position,but not the same & also we have fewer dogs as well.. Once we start our new set-up,we will be taking new pics along the way. This is a goal we have set to be started for spring/summer 2011... It will look awesome after it's completed.. We have plans on creating a nice size run for our labs and ratties, throughout, the summer 2010 we have been purchasing fencing as well as kenneling for this project & yes, this was a goal we have been planning since spring 2010.. | |
