1070. Motorheads On Parade  (March 20 - 23, 2010)
And what'll you do now, my blue eyed sons?
We’re gonna head out while the snow’s still a-fallin’
We’ll ride to the shore of that last frozen river
Where the men are few and mostly Care Ack Ters
They hunt and they fish and they never wear ties
Their guns ain’t registered; their booze is a flowin’
There’s some women too who knows what they’re thinkin’
’Bout Motorheads singing and putting on Follies
Pretending they’re real men when they work in an office
Who cares what they think; we’re too dumb to stop now
We’ll live it and think it and speak it and breathe it
Then ride our machines to the brink of tomorrow
And we’ll know our songs well before we start singing
Motorheads, Motorheads, Motorheads, Motorheads
We’re Motorheads on Parade

3/1 MARINES 5K RUN - 13 MARCH 2010
1071. 3/1 MARINES 5K RUN - 13 MARCH 2010  (13 March 2010)
3/1 (3rd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division) was adopted by the citizens of Huntington Beach in 2005.

On Saturday, 13 March 2010, the  Huntington Beach adoption committee (3/1 Marines Foundation) sponsored the "3/1 RUN," a fund raising 5K (3.1 miles) in Huntington Beach, with the start/finish line near the south end of the beach parking lot.

The funds raised will provide support to 3/1 Marines, Sailors and their families while the battalion is at Camp Pendleton, and while they are deployed, as they will be in April of 2010, to Afghanistan.  Previously, 3/1 was deployed 3 times to Iraq where they participated in Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Prior to the start, a contingent of Marines from 3/1, under the command of Battalion Sergeant Major Scott Samuels, USMC, ran 2 miles while loudly chanting cadence, bringing the crowd to high spirits as they awaited the 5K start.

As before, the citizens of Huntington Beach and the surrounding area turned out to generously support the fund raiser, which could not have been so successful without the tireless support of local organizations and individual volunteers.  The generous contributions of the volunteers and supporters is recognized in the last image of the album.

Those interested in participating further in support of 3/1 should contact Cindy Cross, Executive Director of the 3/1 Foundation, at 714 375-3131, or by email: HB4Marines@aol.com

Please sign the guest book, where you may also include greetings and comments to the Battalion's Marines & Sailors.

CHANGE OF COMMAND - 15TH MEU
1076. CHANGE OF COMMAND - 15TH MEU  (December 5, 2008)
On December 5, 2008, in a Change of Command ceremony, Colonel Brian D. Beaudreault relinquished command of the 15th MEU (Marine Expeditionary Unit) to Colonel Roy  A. Osborn.

Colonel Beaudreault assumed command of the MEU on August 5, 2005, and during his tour of some 40 months, led the unit on two deployments.

These images of the ceremony are presented in the order of events of the day, beginning with the gathering of guests, serenade by the 1st Marine Division Band, the ceremony, and concluding with informal greetings and congratulations among families and guests.  Afterward, Colonel & Mrs. Beaudreault hosted a reception at their home.

Image #2 describes the order of the ceremony.

The passing of the colors, delivered by the Sergeant Major to the outgoing Commanding Officer, and in turn presented to the new Commander, symbolizes the formal transfer of command responsibilites.

After the passing of the colors, Colonel Beaudreault was called front and center to be awarded the Legion of Merit, followed by presentation of a Certificate of Commendation from Lt. General Helland, CG I MEF, to Mrs. Karen  Beaudreault, for her leadership role in caring for families of the unit during two deployments.

Colonel Beaudreault and Colonel Osborn addressed  guests and members of the 15th MEU prior to a Pass In Review which concluded the ceremony.

1079. 2010 Spouse Retreat  (Feb. 26-27, 2010)

The 2010 South Carolina Synod's Rostered Leader's Spouse Retreat took place at White Oak Conference Center this year, and it was fun to be together and welcome some new faces into the group. Friday night was a time to get acquainted with each other and relax together, and then on Saturday, Pastor Bill Mitcham presented a mini-workshop. After our lunch break, we gathered for a service of worship with Holy Communion, led by Pastor Mikki Gay.

On 19 February 2010 at Camp Christianitos, on the Camp Pendleton Marine Base, in a Change of Command ceremony for 1/5 (1st Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division) Lieutenant Colonel William F. McCollough relinquished command of the battalion to Lieutenant Colonel Thomas B. Savage.

The battalion returned in December of 2009 from deployment to Nawa, Afghanistan where they were in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM.

Photographs begin with arrival of guests, Marines of the battalion waiting nearby for Adjutant's Call to take their position on the parade deck, and a concert by the 1st Marine Division Band prior to the beginning of the ceremony.

Photographs follow the sequence of events in image #16, beginning with formation of the battalion staff and the Invocation by the Battalion Chaplain, Chaplain Ronald O'Dell.

The passing of the Battalion's battle colors, delivered by Battalion Sergeant Major William T. Sowers to the outgoing Commanding Officer, and in turn presented to the new Commander, symbolizes the formal transfer of command.
