THUNDER IN THE 'BURG...'06
After a one year hiatus...."WOW!! - What a show." AGAIN! Legal Street-Racing on the streets of Pittsburgh's Northside. This is held on the streets between Heinz Field (Home of the WORLD CHAMPION PITTSBURGH STEELERS) and PNC Park. I cannot imagine the logistics of trying to put this event together, but the personnel from Pittsburgh Raceway Park have done it again. Everything went off without a hitch. GREAT SHOW!!

 | 1189.BLUBOI -- 1967 CorvetteBLUBOI has always been an autocross car, but in his stock state, we could never get enough tire under him to be competitive. So, after a lot of thought and discussion, we decided to add 2 inches on either side (both front and rear) in order to fit him with 10" wheels. Don was head designer -- his major operating parameter from me was "make him look stock."
In October 1995, he was sent to Bill White's Glassworks and the project started. By April, 2006, he was declared "good enough" and returned home in a primer coat. Our painter, Tony Williams Jr. wanted to do a "couple more weeks" on the body lines (as they were still a bit wavy). In late August, 2006, after gallons of bondo on, with most of it sanded off, he was ready for paint. Tony first applied a really good primer, which over the past 10 years has proven to provide excellent chip-resistance.
We used Diamont paint in Marina Blue (his stock color), then added a wide white stripe and a narrow red stripe finished the edges. Then a couple of weeks to put everything back together, finishing the day of Corvette Spectacular. He amde his debut, was a 100 point car and won Best in Show. | |

 | 1198.1964RamblerAmerican440This was a lark. I had some studio time avaialable between shooting cars on assignment so I had my 1964 Rambler American 440 convertible detailed and rolled it into a the studio's cove. It's probably the first time since the fall of 1963 that a 1964 Rambler American was shot inside of a studio so I went for some brochure-style shots that might have been seen in the 1964 promotional materials. I think that given that the car is 40 years old, it looks pretty good. The car was bought on eBay last spring and except for a quick $400 paint job (with lots of self-prep before hand), the Magnum 500 wheels off of my 1968 Rambler Rogue (undergoing a ground-up restoration) and rechroming the bumpers, it's pretty much as I bought it. (Shots of the all-original interior will be posted soon.) Its trip from Boston to LA has already been featured in a two-part story, "Ramblin' Route 66" in the UK publication Classic American. You can look at part one of the series in my PDF Files library at: http://imageevent.com/mmm_mag/pdffiles . Just scroll down to images #19 + 20. If you own a vinatge, classic or special interest car and would like to commission a shot, please feel free to contact me at autotronic@aol.com. My rates are reasonable and I can shoot your car in a studio environment, with a period-authentic background (like a vintage building) or just standard, boring photography (the least expensive way to go) like you see in the vast majority of automotive publications. I am based in Southern California but travel extensively in my work across the US and in Europe about six times a year. As you can see from my PDF files, I've been published extensively around the world and I am always looking for noteworthy vehicles, especially those rare vehicles with interesting "history." I look forward to hearing from you -- if I can make my daily-driver Rambler look this good, just imagine what I can do with your pride and joy. I would love to hear from you. | |
