CHANGE OF COMMAND - 1ST MARINES, 2010 (4 June 2010)Change of Command - 1st Marines (1st Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division). On 4 June 2010 in a Change of Command ceremony, Colonel Daniel J. O'Donahue relinquished command of the famed 1st Marines to Colonel David J. Furness, a former Commanding Officer of 1st Battalion 1st Marines.
Colonel O'Donahue assumed command of the 1st Marines on 3 June 2009, and leaves the Regiment following his selection for promotion to Brigadier General. His next duties will be as Director, Marine Corps Combat Development, Quantico, Virginia.
These images are presented in the order of events of the day, beginning with the gathering of guests, formation of the Regiment just off the parade ground, serenade by the 1st Marine Division Band, the Change of Command, Pass in Review, and concluding with informal greetings and congratulations among families and guests. Image #12 describes the sequence of events.
The passing of the colors, delivered by Regimental Sergeant Major Bryan Zickefoose to the outgoing Commanding Officer, and in turn presented to the new Commander, symbolizes the formal transfer of command.

1/1 MARINES CAR WASH - 18 JULY 2009 (18 July 2009)Just days before the return of 1/1 (1st Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division) from their deployment with the 13th MEU (Marine Expeditionary Unit) Marines of the RBE (Remain Behind Element) returned to Newport Beach for another successful car wash, raising funds to make the battalion's 2009 Birthday Ball more affordable for young Marines & Sailors.
Gunnery Sergeant Daniel Coleman of 1/1 was SNCO in charge, with additional support from 1st Marine Regiment and from Corporal Megan Angel and the Orange County Recruiting office.
A's Market, near the site, kindly donated coffee and breakfast sandwiches for approximately seventy 1/1 Marines and Sailors during set up.
During the day of perfect weather the citizens of Newport Beach again turned out in abundance for car washes and to also generously purchase food and various Marine Corps memorabilia, assuring yet another successful fund raiser for the community's adopted battalion.

Autumn on the Square 2010 (Sept 18th 2010)Autumn on the Square event in Marianna Ar. Just click on the thumbnail here to take you to the photos, then click on each thumbnail you want to view to take you to a larger photo. When you get to the larger photo and you want to save it just "right click" and then from the pop out menu click on "save image as" to save it to your computer. At then bottom of the enlarged photo you will see another option for "original size". That is the original size image from the camera, they will be quite large and you can get a print as large as 20 x 30 or anything in between with them, again to save those larger images just "right click" then "save image as" to save it to your computer
