2540.July 2010 Trip to ColoradoEvery year I make a special trip to see my "family" in Colorado. This year was no exception. Debbie Holmes, her son Justin, and I packed up after work on Wednesday and pulled an all nighter to get to Colorado to see all the mile high wonders we could pack into four days.
We went to Mount Evans where we saw Echo Lake, Summit Lake and froze our tushies off at the peak. We didn't manage to ascend to the very top since the altitude was messing with our heads, but we walked around the visitor station on the summit. We saw Gabriella goats, pica, gophers, and some elk. Deb about had a fit when her side of the car was next to the edge of the cliff with no railing! On the way back down the mountain, we stopped in Idaho Springs for some Beau Jo's pizza. Nummy!!!
Friday, we went to Georgetown for some shopping, then crossed Trail Ridge Road. We saw so many animals! It seemed like every time we thought of one we hadn't seen, it just happened to be right around the next bend in the road. To finish the tour, we stopped in at the Stanley in Estes Park to see the hotel made famous by Stephen King's "The Shining". I've been there before, but I still get chills when I walk into the Billard Room. It looks JUST LIKE the movie. You can almost hear the people (ghosts) talking.
To top off a great weekend, we stayed at the Kallas Palace with my other family. Saturday after the dog show, we climbed up Tracey's mountain to the Melting Pot for some pictures of the doggies being doggies. (I whined the whole way up there since I'm so out of shape, but I'm sure glad I made it!)
Thank you to everyone involved in making this trip so special. Tracey, Dean, Devan and Bo... I love you guys and miss you! Deb and Justin... Thanks for allowing me to play tour guide. I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of my trip. And Rebekah and Diana... It was so much fun hanging out at the show like "old times". Last but not least, thanks to Ellisa for adding the extra leg to your trip to come hang out with us!
