2009 Spring Boat Projects

After returning from our cruise south in March it was time to deal with some small nasty projects. Some dry rot and cracked fiber glass had to be patched before heading north for the summer.

Spring Projects 2008
5. Spring Projects 2008  (March 18 2008)
This time period was from February through March. I fixed some dry rot around the toggles that hold the forward wet lockers down. Then I prepped and painted the inside of the pilot house. This was a signifcant project as it had been on my list for 10 years! This also signified that no other more important projects had popped up. Once the pilot house was completed work started on the replacement of the engine exhaust injection pipe and installing a new engine temperature gauge. Both of these projects were related to the engine overheating issue. Hopefully this will fix this issue!

Projects for Fall of 2007
6. Projects for Fall of 2007  (December 19, 2007)
In the fall of 2007 Perpetua was scheduled for a haulout. It had been 2.5 years and her bottom paint needed redoing. A couple of small problems were discovered that had to be fixed while she was out of the water. Once back at the moorage working started up on other projects on the list. Also some dry rot was discovered on the deck and that needed to be fix too.

Boat Activites May 2007
7. Boat Activites May 2007  (May 5, 2007)
Some of the activities in the winter of 2007 could not be photograghed. This work involved preparing Perpetua for a shake down crise. In March Perpetua was rammed by another boat while in her slip. The damaged was limited to the dingy divits and solar panel frame. The repairs took 6 weeks from incident to completion. Record time for Mexico. While on a shake down cruise the heat exchanger over heated and had to be cleaned and a raw water pump repaired.

Boat Work Fall 2006
8. Boat Work Fall 2006  (Nov 10, 2006)
In late October Pat returned to Mazatlan to continue the boat work. My son Patrick visited me for a week and helped with the recarpeting project. Here some pictures from those efforts. Other projects completed that have no pictures included finding a lose ground that effected all the lights on the mast, installing new pump parts in the water maker, cleaning up a wiring issue and installing a replacement light fixture in the galley. Busy season!

2005 haulout
12. 2005 haulout  (March 8, 2005)
Finaly the work above the water line was completed to the point where we felt confident in taking Perpetua away from the dock. So we scheduled a haulout to see what the bottom looked like, fix any problems (there are always some) and give her a new paint job. We had Tom & Kathy from Ahwahnee crew with us. Departure was at 06:30 to make the tides going out the entrance.

The Pain
14. The Pain  (November 10, 2004)
One of the first things we noticed when we got to the boat in October of 2004 was that the main sail track was pulling away from the deck. Once we made a survey of the deck area we discovered several "soft" spots. These mean "dry rot", on a wood boat this is the dreaded fear. This album is about that recovery. We had to remove the deck hardware, the inside overhead panels and then all the fiberglass insulation. Then the folks that we hired took over to cut out the dry rot and patch up the holes and then refiberglass the deck.
