Hammock, Tunnel, & Pouch by Kathy (March 1, 2003)These items are all made with place mats that are 13-1/2" x 17-1/2". The place mats used are made from sturdy fabric and have a different pattern on each side (top and underneath). The one-inch ribbon used for the hammock is about 20" long. Note, if making a hammock, tunnel, or pouch, make sure that the place mat fabric is stiff, not soft and flimsy, or else it will not retain the shape of the finished project. For the hammock, I folded each ribbon piece in half and stitched it to each of the four corners of the placemat. The top edges of the ribbon may be turned under and stitched to create a finished look and to prevent the ribbon from unraveling. The hammock is then complete and ready to hang (see photo album).
