The Terracotta Army or the Terracotta Warriors and Horses, are near life sized depictions of the armies of Qin Shi Huang, first Emperor of China. It is near Xi'an, Shaanxi province. The three pits contain approximately 8,000 soldiers, 130 chariots with 520 horses, and 150 cavalry horses. Many are still buried in the pits near by Qin Shi Huang's mausoleum.

Originally, the figures would have been painted with realistic colors. Some evidence o the color still exists.

The gentleman who discovered the Terracotta Army. For about 30 RMB (about $6), I was able to take his photograph as he signed one of the books for me. I guess his presence at the site is his reward for discovering the figures, as the property they were on would not have been his property. The government owns all property in China.
