Welcome to Wild Oak Rat Terriers, we're glad you stopped by and hope you enjoy our albums. We are a small breeder of Rat Terriers, located in San Jose, California.

At Wild Oak we specialize in large mini's to small standards, emphasis on temperament, health, quality, conformation, structural correctness, beauty, brains and prey drive.

Our puppies are raised in the house, on our horse boarding facility with cats, chickens and lots of socialization and love. When the pups are old enough to venture outside, we go for walks on the ranch with their Mom and they learn about lots of fun stuff!!

They are very well adjusted, outgoing, happy and have strong self esteems.

We enjoy participating with our dogs in performance events and conformation competition.  A Rat Terrier’s main love in life is to be with their people, so they enjoy competiting as well, pets first, show dogs second.  Rat Terriers are a hardy healthy breed, strong, active, happy and funny.  They are the ultimate family companion, happy to lay around all day, ready to go in an instant. They are very sensitive and easy to train, they want to participate with their people, and are happiest when they’re with them.

Their tails are docked, dew claws removed, de-worming starts at 2 weeks of age, they are given their first immunization at 8 weeks. They are microchipped, and go to their forever homes with a Veterinarian exam, health guarantee, pedigree and "puppy packs."

Our dogs are UKC and AKC FSS registered.

Porsche holds a CGC degree with AKC, "Canine Good Citizen."

This is Porsche "what a dog" Littleton, she's our baby and our constant companion. During the day she gardens with her Mom (varmints beware) and is the CEO of the Rat Terrier Security Company. She enjoys exploring  and hunting with her dog family, Gabby, Viggo, Libby and Dolly, aka the "Terrier Terrorists." She loves to go shopping at Home Depot, Orchard Supply and especially to pet stores.

At night she is happy hanging out with her Mom and Dad, sharing a bite of their dinner, watching a little TV and burrowing under the covers at bed time.

Porsche's parents are T-Bone and Spring, thank you so much Deborah Bogart for this most awesome girl.

Rat Terriers were accepted into the AKC FSS program, mid 2005. On January 1, 2006 they were approved to compete in the AKC performance events, such as, obedience, rally, tracking, earth dog and agility.

January 28, 3006 Porsche debut Rat Terriers at the prestigious Golden Gate Kennel Club show at the Cow Palace in San Francisco. She was brilliant, got a first leg towards her CD degree and placed 4th too!! Two more legs were earned on February 26, thus earning her CD degree!! and are we ever proud of her!!

Porsche will be continuing her competitive obedience training and will make a debut in the Open class hopefully back at the Golden Gate Kennel Club show in 2007. She is currently in agility training, we love it and can hardly wait to compete.

Other than Porsche, the "Queen Mother," we are absolutely thrilled to pieces to have this lady in our family.

Gabby is, simply put, the greatest girl ever. She absolutely loves everyone and considers them her best friends. She loves to greet people by leaping through their car window or jumping into the car as soon as they open the door. Her way of getting acquainted is by running up to people, leaping off the ground and hitting them about chest high. She's very gentle though, and before you realize it you've got a dog on your chest and you've basically caught her! She never jumps on children and is very gentle with them.

Everybody knows you should get your puppy from "a good breeder." But how can you tell who's a good breeder?  Raising good puppies makes some very specific demands, so there are signs, we'll call them traffic lights, that the careful buyer can spot.

Click here to learn "How to Recognize a Good Breeder"

There's so much to know about taking care of a puppy; there's also much to understand about training a puppy. How do you begin? You begin by first learning about what makes a puppy a puppy - what he needs, what he responds to, what he can do. This link then is your introduction to basic puppy.

The great dog food debate- the good the bad and the ugly.  How does one choose?  If you follow television, you may believe that the companies that advertise there have foods full of tasty meat and chock full of great vitamins and minerals, but is it true?  Not so much. In the world of dog food it is buyer beware, yet the average person picking up a supermarket brand of dog food is unaware of the hazard.  This does not make them bad owners – they are simply uninformed owners.  Who knew you needed to research dog food more diligently than your own food?

Over the years many pet owners and Veterinarians have become concerned about the potentially harmful practice of annual vaccination. As immune disease, cancer and chronic disease in canines increases, new studies on the duration of immunity are being done.

All 27 veterinary schools in North America are in the process of changing their protocols for vaccinating dogs and cats. Those that are working for change have a long road ahead of them.

Old habits die hard; fortunately things are starting to change for the better thanks to a few dedicated Veterinarians and researchers who are willing to make a difference.

The Rainbow Bridge
11. The Rainbow Bridge  (June 15, 2007)

*
Dedicated to our loved ones who are waiting for us there, we miss you very much and think of you everyday.

Just this side of heaven is a place called the Rainbow Bridge......

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....
