Partial Master Progress

Progress towards the front/back master T207 set - or at least the bulk of it.  Roughly speaking, the 200 cards of the T207 set fall in two classes:

  • Recruit - 150 players, 5 variations for 155 cards
  • Broadleaf - 50 players, 1 variation for 51 cards

Cards are restricted to one class or the other - there is no overlap.  There are a subset of cards in the Recruit-class that were issued with an Anonymous Factory 3 back, but that is the only apparent caveat to the prior statement.  It doesn't change the fact that those are Recruit-class only, and does not imply that they might also be found with the other Broadleaf-class backs.

In the numbers below, confirmation for me implies that I have a visual evidence from a photo/scan that a front/back combination exists.

Recruit-class

  • Recruit Factory 240, 606 - all 155 cards with each factory are confirmed.
  • Napoleon - only 137 currently confirmed.
  • Anonymous, Factory 3 (a.k.a. Anon3 Recruits) - 50 currently confirmed

Broadleaf-class

  • Broadleaf - all 51 cards confirmed
  • Cycle - 50 cards confirmed
  • Anonymous Factory 3 - all 51 cards confirmed
  • Anonymous Factory 25 - 49 cards confirmed
  • Red Cross - 14 cards of 13 players are known.

For my pursuit of this 'Master/Master' and for both my sanity and pocketbook, I have excluded:

  • The Lewis no-emblem - examples are confirmed with only Broadleaf and Anon Factory 3 backs to date.
  • The Red Cross back - the uniqueness all but 1 of the 14  known cards makes it neither feasible nor interesting.**

End of Quest

As of late summer, the pursuit of this master/master has been abandoned.  Final tally 676/704 cards:

  • Recruit 240 and 606 complete at 155 cards each
  • Broadleaf, Cycle and Anon Factory 3 (broadleaf-class) all complete at 50 cards each
  • Anon Factory 25 - 43/50
  • Napoleon - 126/137 presently confirmed.
  • Anon Factory 3 (Recruit) - 48/50 catalogued

That effort was pursued in earnest (at the exclusion of other collecting) from 2011-2024, though the T207 collection itself was built mostly starting in 2006.  A few cards (4) were purchased as early as 1991, 3 of which remained in the collection until it was broken up.

* - The Anon3 Recruits have been the subject of much speculation over time.  Before the early 2000's, it was hypothesized that the Anon Factory 3 back was the only one that could be found on any player.  Survey work published in 2004 (T. Newcomb, VCBC v 37,38) indcated that was likely not the case, listed 22 and hypothesized that 50 was a more likely number of members in that grouping.  Only 50 have been confirmed to-date.  The VCBC survey publication and accompanying text is the source of the naming conventions used in this description.

** - The Red Cross back is somewhat shrouded in mystery, or at least mystique.  See the https://www.louisianacards.com/t207.html page for more details

Recruit Factory 240
1. Recruit Factory 240
The most common of the T207 backs, the Recruit Factory 240 back likely comprises more than 50% of all T207 cards.

All 150 poses + the 5 accepted variations, and a Clarke-no-Emblem thrown in for good measure.

Recruit Factory 606
2. Recruit Factory 606
The other factory Recruit cards.  Though not as common as their Factory 240 brethren, the Factory 606-backed cards are still more common than any of the remaining backs.  Together, the two Recruit backs probably make up over 80% of all T207s (T. Newcomb, VCBC #38)

Though no population study comparing Recruit factories 606 and 240 has been undertaken, casual comparisons give ballpark estimates whre the latter outweigh the former by more than 2:1 for most subjects, with some poses being as much 5-10x more common in Factory 240.

Oddly, certain player/poses (primarily more difficult ones) seem to be more readily available in higher grades with the Factory 606 back...

Hera are all 150 poses + the 5 accepted variations, and a Clarke-no-Emblem thrown in for good measure.

The Napoleon back...

More to say here that I have words for at the moment...

Anonymous - Factory 3 (Recruits)
4. Anonymous - Factory 3 (Recruits)

The most misunderstood and condition-sensitive subset within the T207 world. Membership stands at 50 different players, with the 50th only being confirmed in 2024. Its not clear if this will grow, and if so, to what count? Rarely found in grades above VG. Here are 47 of the 50 Recruit poses presently known to be found with the Anon3 back.

Broadleaf
5. Broadleaf
The 50-card grouping that is the Broadleaf-backed cards.

The easiest group of cards in the 'Broadleaf-class' cards.

This is all 50 main Broadleaf poses and is complete (for me).  As stated elsewhere, I'm not including Lewis no-Emblem in this quest.

Cycle
6. Cycle

Cycle-backed T207's. 50 cards in this back which is third-most difficult of the four backs in the 'Broadleaf-class' (excluding Red-Cross).

All 50 of the recorded Cycle poses, subset complete.

Anonymous - Factory 25
7. Anonymous - Factory 25
The most difficult of the four primary 'Broadleaf-class' T207 bacs. the Anonymous - Factory 25 backed cards (A25) are also the ones more likely to be found in higher grades than other 'Broadleaf-class' cards.

Missing 7 cards for completion. including too many of the big ones.  Not all of these cards are presently confirmed.

Anonymous - Factory 3
8. Anonymous - Factory 3

The easier of the two Anonymous-backed groupings in the Broadleaf class cards, and though it trails the Broadleaf back by some distance in terms of availability, the factory 3 backed cards (A3) are a relatively completeable subset within T207 as a whole, though primarily at lower grades.

A3's can often be found with slight color variations in the printing on the back. Where the A25 backs are often seen with dark black printing, the A3's are usually not so pronounced, and are often found with more muted black printing, sometimes with tones tending towards brown ore even purple. Some cards have been seen that show clear tonal variations of brown to purple, suggesting a liquid agent may have been involved.

This is all 50 poses, without the Lewis no-Emblem
