|  7 Carrollton Krewe of Carrollton, New Orleans. This krewe is one of the oldest in New Orleans, started in 1924. Both pieces were made by BSK--the necklace for the 1949 ball and the bracelet for the 1952 ball. Other pieces may have included earrings and a brooch.

This particular doll represents the Skull and Bones Krewe of the New Orleans African American community. It has special meaning because it was the first doll created after Hurricane Katrina destroyed New Orleans in 2005.

|  44 Poydras Gate New Orleans souvenir of the famous Poydras Street gate. The Poydras Gate brooch represents the signature gates of Poydras House in the Garden District. It began in 1917 as an orphanage and was known as the Poydras Orphan Asylum For Females but evolved into an organization to provide care to older women and (later) men. It continues operations to this day as a senior care facility.
