Kids bath remodel
Kicking off the kids bathroom remodel.  The builder-grade jack and jill bath, that had a tub, toilet and double vanity, is being converted into two smaller full baths, each with 30x60 shower, toilet and vanity. Swinging doors from bedrooms are being replaced with pocket doors.

Holly's room - the old bathroom door has to move to the right.  The new opening will be a pocket door also.

4/16/13 - Plumbers begin.  Had to split the plumbing into two baths and move the drains and vents.  This pic shows relocated vanity drain, hot and cold water and toilet cold water supply.

The entire subfloor in the bath area was removed to gain access to the existing plumbing. Unfortunately, the 3/4" hot and cold ended under Holly's bedroom.  The carpet had to be pulled back and some of the subfloor removed in there to split the 3/4" water supply for the two baths.

Holly's shower roughed in.  The setup is a Moen 270 which includes an Exact-Temp valve with rain shower head, plus a sliding hand-held body spray.

Ryan's shower rough-in.  Also a Moen 270.  We wanted to put 4 body sprays in but there just wasn't enough room in the smallish showers.

The shower pan framing has been started.  Each shower will be about 30x60.

4/17/13 - This is where the plumbing had to be brought in from under the room adjacent to Ryan's new bath.

4/18/13 - Pocket door framing has been installed in both bathrooms. Plumbing passed inspection, so we're waiting for the electrician on Monday 4/22/13. Just found out that current code requires 12-2 wire to be run for both new baths.  I just finished patching where I ran 14-2 down to the panel. Doh!

4/23/13 - Electricians on site.  More holes in the walls - but thankfully not as bad as we've seen before.  They had to pull 12-2 and 14-2 wire for the new baths - all the way from the attic to the panel in the basement. After doing this myself in a more complicated way, I told them to go down from the attic on the outside wall and drop the wire directly into the panel area in the basement.  With three people they did it in no time.

Master bedroom only required one small hole to pull wire down from the attic.  Whew!

Living room required two small holes.  The storage room in the basement below is unfinished, so no holes to patch there!

Had the electricians add a new three way switch outside of the bathroom doors in both kids rooms.  No more running across the room to the light switch when you want to jump in bed.

Ryan's side showing light switch and one of the outlets.  Each bath gets three outlets; one on the left side of the sink, one inside the vanity cabinet, and one in the backsplash area over the toilet (for plug-in iPhone stereo).  The vanities will be "banjo tops" that extend from the vanity cabinet over the toilet tank - same length as the mirrored medicine cabinets.  The tops and backsplash will be done in Carrera marble or granite, and will go all the way up from the vanity top to the medicine cabinet.

In Ryan's bath went with ceiling cans.  Will have a 48" wall-mounted medicine cabinet, so hopefully the cans will look good.  Also on the ceiling is the newly installed Panasonic whisper fan.

More pics to come... jobs finished and the bathrooms turned out really well!
