There were 3 copies of the dress made; I've found pics online confirming at least 2 of the copies used different combinations of trims/finishes to decorate their side-tail features ...

..to scale at 3.5 inches in length
.. hairclips to scale at 1.5" in diameter
So far calculated 5-6mtrs of Gold trim here alone, & at least 12 of these that I could count decorating the net overskirt!
Maria George - 3mm sequin trim It's actually a more Antique Gold than the photo/yellow-gold.
The left hand sample could almost pass for the outline trim of the decorated side-pieces, but it's not grey, or shiny, enough...

Undecided on silk or satin for this one ...
but definately going with the Whiter sample.. Ivory may have been used for the movie but in RL I think white will better impress.

plan to build the bases of the hairpins with sculpy then glue to these brooch-backs.
Then these will form the centre of each hairpiece...

I had bought two of these, so I'd have a colour-match for the braided plait that sits around the crown but the eBay Seller got suspended. *sigh* ... I got my money back.
Still unsatisfied by colours and texture, I foraged for more options for materials for the side-tails
..and comparing to the old samples..
Thought the darker silver wouldnt work but it did, besides I detested the bubble-texture of the paler one. Next, comparing different trims...
The extra hairpins arrive and cutting out the shape for the base.
I have 12 of the hairpins, but 8 of the hairclips bought last year ... mixed up they should blend ok anyway
..removing wires and hairpins
ta-dah! MUCH sparkly-goodness!
Colour testing some cotton bobbin lace. Silver crochet lace is hard to come by, so I had to just create the look myself.
Top Row L-R: Silver Dimensional Fabric, silver acrylic, Silver Enamal spray Bottom L-R: Enamel over Dimensional, Enamal over acryllic, then Nail polishes in silver glitter, Old Silver glitter and metallic Silver
Enamel sprayed over the 1st two mediums works well, but it stinks of turpentine even when dry. I'm probably going with Silver Glitter, or Old Silver Glitter nail polish..
Brilliant find! US Dyables - Size 9 $7 from a Brisbane Red Cross Op Shop
The wig I finally got. Not as Dk Brown as I'd like, so I'm going to darken it with a light spray of watered Acryllic paint
The wig was a LOT lighter brown than even the ebay photo showed ..first rinse of colour (acryllic paints/diluted) .. went a darker brown but needed to be darker, with a reddish tint still..
Drying after another round of colour, you have to keep 'scrunching' the wig as it dries to avoid stiffness, and it lifts out excess colour .. USE GLOVES!
