This is a WONDOERFUL Castle and our stay here was one of the highlights of our trip. If you go to Scotland YOU MUST stay over at a castle one night and this is the castle to choose. Borthwick caslte is located very near Edinburgh.
There are LOTS of castles to see in Scotland and some you can even stay at. However, Borthwick Castle is KNOWN for it's FANTASTIC hospitality and unique history. When staying at the castle you are offered a tour. It is also documented that Mary Queen of Scots had stayed at this same castle and later escaped from it.
I promise if you stay at Borthwick Castle it will be a wonderful and lasting experience for you. CLICK HERE to visit the Borthwick Castle website for more information on it's history. You can also inquire about staying at this unique castle.

The arrow points to where the castle was once attacked by Oliver Cormwell's forces in the 15th century.
Cheri going into the castle
Dennis just inside our room. Notice how small the door is. That is so the enemy would have difficulty stooping down to go into a room with armor on.
The room we stayed in Mary Queen of Scots also stayed in during the 15th century. Hanging on one wall in our room was a painting of her.
Cheri is fascinated with Mary Queen of Scots. We later bought Cheri a book on Mary Queen of Scots' life.
Yes, a "fake" fireplace was in our room too.
Dennis and Candy on a 15th century love seat that was in the room.
Dennis getting stuff ready to wear for our special dinner in the Great Hall.
One of the two intimate sitting areas located in our room. Each one had seats and a window.

Candy on the wonderful canopy bed.
Lots of nice antique furniture was in our room too.

Candy and Dennis This is one of our favorite photos from our trip.
We are both dressed in authentic Scottish attire.
This, and another Knight in armor, adorned the walls of the Great Hall.

WONDERFUL painting of Mary Queen of Scots hung in the Great Hall.
After dinner we all gathered in the lounge for a personal tour of the whole castle.
We were told the history of the castle. EVEN THE story of the Ghosts that haunt the castle! Ooooooooooooooooooooo
Ok, I know this photo is strange. But it was fun watching too. We had such a great time letting her show us how a ghost would have ran through the Great Hall.
