Upward slash. - The chevroned vineyards a hold out from the past. The hillside look from before the day and age of consolidation. No oversight, some hillsides are simply too steep to make the effort worthwhile. Fully mechanized viticulture defied by nature.

[Fringe benefit of small land lots, no shortage of public accommodation roads. Holds for the whole area.]

The CE in the coat of arms stands for "Civitas Esslingensis". The per pale partition may represent the garb of the local militia (the guilds in arms). Their very sight will have scared the socks off the encroaching Duke Ulrich. The playing cards are upon us. Actually mainly a blockade policy. - The angels have the clean shaven look of shield bearers.

Foundation plaque. Pertinent do it yourself vocabulary: theme, lithography, hierodule, naology, eulogy, glottal, theocracy. - There is nothing in the world you cannot say with a few well chosen words of  common Greek. Just wait for an unwary cab driver.

Depicted events will not necessarily date back to Byron time. The period costumes look however strange. The Ninja turtle look (cotton codpieces) is involuntary.  Not sure about the proportions. The central figure somewhat bandy-legged. (Phidias: Will not pass muster.)

Best guess, underground parking or bathroom access. Some surface structure is neutral.

The board of tourism has engaged some performing arts students to deliver Doomsday speeches. Mendicant order garb and emaciated Fra Savanerola look a must. Not sure what would happen if anybody would take them seriously. Orwell radio adaption, part II.

Early 19th century view. The 'rectification' has just started. Not sure if the term is a permissible synonym for industrialization. The rows of highway shading Lombardy poplars an unmistakable  sign that Napoleonic troops did pass. Corsica man's footstep in kitchen Algonkin. The second sign were numbered houses. No kickbacks from Thurn&Taxis (mail services). Simply did facilitate billeting.

Kielmeyer House. Inscription: Soap boiler and general drugstore. (Everything but fire crackers.) Originally a press house. (Gradient of the gable somewhat atypical for a press house. Torque devices need surface area not hight.)

'School house' turret dates from 1842. The rest of the 'New' City Hall is about 100 year older.

Looks nearly as imposing as the stern of galleon. The omission of town clocks on the latter probably just a historic accident. If a town mayor can share his office with life sized clock gear so should an officer of the fleet like Sidonia.

The clock dates back to 1592. The clockmaker was Jakob Diem. (Probably better not to check the clockwork too closely. Sundry wear and tear replacements.)
