Penn Reel, 2 1/2" top dia. and 1 7/8" where line is.   Penn Reel is a 109.  Both Herter's and Penn Reel tops and bases are bakelite or catalin, with bakelite knobs on the Penn and a wood one on the Herter's.  Both have lines.  I've just dusted them off.

One of the last photos I took of him at our cabin on the Miramichi.  He was so proud of that salmon.
My dad, Greyton Hoyt Taylor of Hammondsport, NY.  Fall of 1970.

It would seem that there is one piece missing, but all of the bits fit together easily and look to be original-perhaps the 'missing' piece was meant to be for extra length.

This was the only reel I was able to find.  I know there were more, but oddly, throughout moving I believe the good rods and reels probably were needed by someone else more.

This belonged to Franklin 'Busty' Aulls, a school chum and fishing buddy of my fathers.  My father made this for him, and when Busty died, his wife gave it back to my dad.  The flies were tied by my father, Busty, and Butts Hoyt.
