27 Friday night’s panel show came on Beer and Pizza Night, with perhaps predictable results:
This photo, taken from some distance, shows the perplexed panel wondering about the bidding they were somehow supposed to make sense out of. Tournament chair Allan Ferguson hosted the session and the panel was Rhonda Foster, Gerry McCully, Dick Yarington, Peter Herold and Ken Scholes. It didn’t take long for the entertainment to begin: (see next photo)
28 Among the comments were “I wouldn’t have opened that hand,” “I wouldn’t have opened it either,” “having shown a one-suited hand, I will now bid Three Diamonds and when I’m doubled I’ll retreat to Three Hearts, confirming a two-suiter,” “how can that be worth zero points?” and “Thanks for digging these hands up from Five Weeks to Winning Bridge.” When the smoke cleared and the scores were tallied, Rhonda scored up a victory, against the scoring system at least, although the panel members didn’t seem to have much confidence in the point awards...
