CHANGE OF COMMAND - 1ST MARINES
Change of Command - 1st Marines (1st Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division). On 3 June 2009 in a Change of Command ceremony, Colonel Lewis A. Craparotta relinquished command of the famed 1st Marines to Colonel Daniel J. O'Donohue.
Colonel Craparotta assumed command of the 1st Marines on 2 June 2006, and during his tour of three years deployed with the Regiment's Headquarters to command RCT-1 (Regimental Combat Team) from January 2008 to January 2009.
These images are presented in the order of events of the day, beginning with the gathering of guests, serenade by the 1st Marine Division Band, the Change of Command, Pass in Review, and concluding with informal greetings and congratulations among families and guests. Image #13 describes the sequence of events.
The passing of the colors, delivered by the Sergeant Major to the outgoing Commanding Officer, and in turn presented to the new Commander, symbolizes the formal transfer of command.
