The citizens of Newport Beach, CA adopted 1/1 (1st Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division) in 2003. Since then, the community of Newport Beach has supported 1/1 Marines, Sailors & their families while at their home base on Camp Pendleton, and when the battalion is deployed.
Recently returned from a combat deployment in Afghanistan, 1/1 looks forward to attending the unit’s Marine Corps Birthday Ball, always the most celebrated event of the year.
Volunteers who make up the 1/1 Foundation assisted 1/1 by arranging a location for a 1/1 car wash in Newport Beach and by publicizing the event to encourage public support. The funds raised by car wash donations will be used to offset the cost for the lower enlisted ranks to attend the Birthday Ball with wives or dates.
Thanks to 1/1 Marines' hard work and a generous public the event of 27 July 2013 was clearly successful.
2 It appears that this Ferrari captured the attention of the Marine car wash volunteers. I understand the owner invited one of the Marines to take a test drive. The offer was accepted without debate.

18 This Marine landed at Inchon September 1950 with the 1st Marines (1st Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division) under command of a Marine Icon, then Colonel Lewis B. "Chesty" Puller, who retired from the Marine Corps as a Lieutenant General.
19 Thanks for supporting 1/1 Marines & Sailors, and please sign the guest book.
