1/1 MARINES CAR WASH - 26 MARCH 2011
While 1/1 (1st Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division) is deployed again, the small contingent remaining at their home base on Camp Pendleton conducted a car wash in Newport Beach, CA. Funds raised will be used to offset the cost of attendance for the lower enlisted ranks at the Marine Corps Ball in November 2011, after the battalion returns from deployment.
1/1 was formally Adopted by Newport Beach in 2003, and once again, the citizens of Newport Beach and surrounding communities turned out to support the car wash.
Under the command of Gunnery Sergeant Robert Holmes, the Marines of 1/1 enjoyed visiting with the many supporters who came by for car washes and to express thanks to the Marines for service to the country.
The next car wash is scheduled for 30 April 2011. Come by to participate and visit the Marines of 1/1.
