Say Hi to Stilton!
We believe he is a 6-year old Teddy / "Type B" Rat Terrier (now known as a Teddy Roosevelt Terrier).
He was very anxious and fearful at the shelter, so rescue was called in.
After a couple days in a temp foster home, he found his way to Chattanooga. (Thank you Tyler and Carl for flying him here!)
He greeted the other foster dog with friendly excitement.
He weighs only 11 lbs. but isn't particularly afraid of new people.
Checking out his new foster dad.
Nice to meet you!
0:24He came in and checked everything out, with a little nervousness but mostly with curiosity. Click for a short video.
He likes to hang around in the general vicinity of his trusted people but isn't clingy.
He does like attention, particularly when he thinks there might be treats being offered.
"Did you say treats?"
0:18Stilton enjoys spending time outdoors, with or without people around.
His housetraining has not been perfect, but when he gets plenty of opportunities for time outdoors, or if there is a dog door available, he does pretty well. He will need continued work on reinforcing good habits.
He is an alert little guy, attuned to squirrels, neighbor dogs barking, or unfamiliar noises that need to be investigated.
The yard is a big place when you're such a little guy.
Getting a couple extra inches of height to survey everything.
0:27waggy tailed and so friendly, but still curiously observant of his new surroundings
He willingly shares attention, space, and toys with his foster sister.
0:17He has this adorable quirk when he is getting his meals. For some unknown reason, he always runs around behind me to approach his bowl from the other side. Click the video to see what I mean.
When the household is quiet, he contentedly naps.
0:27But when foster sister is willing to play with him, he enjoys that, too.
0:03When she hogs the bed and the toys he waits patiently for an opportunity...
Playing with toys is a lot of hard work and requires napping frequently!
Generally speaking Stilton is pretty quiet around the house unless startled by knocking or other loud unexpected noise.
He may start with a bit or barking or grumbling when meeting a newcomer to the home, but within seconds he can't resist checking out the person's ankles and trying to get some pats and attention.
Just waiting for his new adoptive family to apply for him...
