Enlarge photo 1 Say hi to little Romano.
Enlarge photo 2 He is about 4 years old.
Enlarge photo 3 Romano weighs 14.7 lbs. and stands about a foot tall (to shoulders).
Enlarge photo 4 He is a somewhat shy, mellow fellow.
Enlarge photo 5 He will timidly seek out attention and is very appreciative when you give him pats, scratches, and belly rubs.
Enlarge photo 6 He likes to hang out near me, choosing the closest dog bed to where I am, then just calmly watch me or take a quiet snooze.
Enlarge photo 7 We have been guessing at his breed heritage. While his face/head/ears look very rat terrier, his legs are relatively short and thick, with turned out feet like a corgi. And his fur, particularly on his back end, is thick and rather wooly. And he carries his bushy tail low.
Enlarge photo 8 Do you see it?
Enlarge photo 9 Romano did a fair bit of light marking in his first few days here, but saved the big stuff for outside. So he wore a belly band indoors for a few days before settling in enough to making it unnecessary.
Enlarge photo 10 When he has regular access to the yard every 3 hours or so, his housetraining is reliable. We haven't yet determine how long he will "hold it" if we don't have him on a set schedule.
Enlarge photo 11 He met the other dogs here with polite curiosity and immediately got along with everyone.
Enlarge photo 12 He shares his space and resources comfortably.

Enlarge photo 16 He is very quiet in the house. We have only heard him bark once. As he has gotten accustomed to this house, he has slowly begun to vocalize a bit more outside when he is feeling excited and playful.
Enlarge photo 17 In the beginning he wouldn't eat kibble unless it was mixed generously with canned food, and even then he'd lick off the canned and spit out most of the kibble.
Enlarge photo 18 Over time, though, he got more acclimated to kibble and now he will eat it eagerly without the need for any "disguise."
Enlarge photo 19 Romano is a great loose leash walker. He adopts your pace, doesn't stop excessively to sniff or pee, isn't disturbed by passing cars or people, and can easily go a mile without tiring.
