Hi! I'm Colby!
| I just recently had my 1 year birthday, so I'm full grown at just a smidge under 20 lbs.
| My last family wasn't supposed to have a dog, and when the landlord discovered me, he said that I had to go. No one was happy about that! I was particularly distressed because my people took me back to the shelter, where I was very unhappy.
|
The shelter was terrible because, as you see from my pictures, I'm VERY people oriented. I want attention and affection more than anything in the world.
| Give me any opportunity and I'll be right there beside you or on you, eagerly accepting pats and affection.
| I am a very gentle boy, whether playing with toys, being handled, or taking treats.
|
And very photogenic, don't you think?
| I really really want people to play with me and pay attention to me. When you're too busy, I try to entertain myself on my own, and sometimes I do a great job of that. But other times, well, let's just say that there is a LOT in a home that needs to be investigated, and I'm a good fellow for that job.
| Please don't get mad at me, though. If I'm a little too enthusiastic with something of yours, you just need to let me know and I promise I will try my very best to remember what is off-limits.
|
My foster dad has a great lap. I sure hope that my adoptive mom and/or dad do too!
| Because that is a very important requirement of adoption, you know!
| I do a very good job with house training when I'm in my familiar environment on a regular schedule. When things are new, though, I get confused and think that I need to mark to establish that this place is mine. My foster mom sometimes puts a belly band on me and I don't resist that, nor do I try to mark when I have it on.
|
When I'm outside I'm usually nose down, absorbing all of the wonderful smells. I do have a high prey drive and like to chase birds, chipmunks, and squirrels!
| Want to watch a video of me playing with a toy? For some reason it doesn't want to open when you click the picture, but you can click the "Download" link instead to view it.
| I like to get every single toy out of the toy box and place them around the room in convenient places. I like chew toys and tug toys and throw toys and... well... I just like toys!
|
It's so much more fun to play with toys when someone will play with me.
| Yay! Yes, that's what I'm talking about!
| I can entertain myself just fine if I have enough toys. Click the download link to watch me really enjoying myself.
|
It made me super nervous to be in the shelter, and when I'm nervous I sometimes bark and growl because I'm not sure how to react. Thankfully, the shelter workers knew that I'd probably do better once I got out of the cage and into a calmer space.
| And sure enough, they were right! They sent this video to New Rattitude to show what a sweet fellow I actually am. Click the Download link to watch the video. (They're calling me "Grover," which was my shelter name.)
| When my foster mom read the shelter's evaluation that said I am "friendly, appeasing, nervous, playful, affection-loving, curious, and gentle" and that I "want to be a lap dog," she knew that I would make someone a terrific pet.
|
I get along great with the other dogs I've met, including my foster sister. I may bark when first meeting another dog, but I'm extremely and curious about them and respectful if they ask for space.
| I was very excited when my foster parents' grand dog came for a visit. She doesn't play with me much but she is fun to hang out with.
| She likes to nap longer than I do, though. After a half hour or so I'm ready for a new adventure.
|
I could use help building my confidence in unfamiliar surroundings and with unfamiliar sounds and objects. I'd love to get more experience walking on leash and learning new skills.
| Would you like to teach me new things?
| I'd really like it if you wanted to adopt me.
|
In the meantime, I'm just hanging out here waiting for you.
