Little Stevie Wonder 9-15-07
Little Stevie the Wonder Caique is settling in and seems very content in his forever home with me, Mamma Christine.  Mamma Gloria and Daddy Ron, his breeders at Shady Pines Aviary, call every day to see how he is doing and to share their wealth of knowledge on weaning and fledging chicks.
Coming soon, Little Stevie's antics as a one year old. :-)

September 15, 2007 and Little Stevie's International Heliport is 90% complete

My neighbor Madeline Snyder found and purchased all the different fabrics you see represented in these photos

Madeline also stitched all the panels together for Little Stevie.  Thank you Madeline!!

Madeline also came up with the design.  She suggested PVC pipe frame and also a curtain rod to help suspend the canopy

September 15 and Jacob my grandson came over to visit Little Stevie Wonder.  They like to watch TV together and cuddle

Jacob was very mindful of the fact that although Stevie's wings are clipped, a gust of wind could carry him away.

That night tired from all the activity of having company, Little Stevie chose to sleep on his preening swing.

Septemeber 20, 2007 and Stevie is exploring his heliport landing pad

The head and foot boards are cushioned with foam mattress pads.

Although the curtain panels are tucked under the mattress, I will have to place mattress pads along the sides.  No matter how tightly the panels are tucked, Little Stevie can still fall the gap between the mattress and the curtains

Trying to give Stevie a feel for how tall the 'ceiling' is!

September 24, 2007

Shy 1 day of 16 weeks, Little Stevie had an appointment with Dr. Ernest Slovon of the Owings Mills Animal and Avian Hospital in Owings Mills, MD.  He really travels well.

Little Stevie's left eye started 'tearing' quite a bit and I wanted Dr. Slovon to check it out.  Good news, no obvious infection, however, as a precautionary measure, Stevie is to take .04ML of Baytril 2x a day for 7 days.  Dr. Slovon also prescribed Neo/Poly/Dex Opth Solution, eyedrops, for 10 days, 3x's a day.  We go back in two weeks for a re-check.

Photos 1 - 4 should give you an indication as to why I redid Little Stevie's Heliport.

I added a see-through panel so I could keep an eye on Little Stevie

Here he is climbing up and towards fleece which I braided for him.  It hangs from top to bottom

This photo shows how I keep all the panels fastened to the bed.  There are no longer any gaps for Little Stevie to fall into or fall out of.

A new project for Little Stevie's Heliport.  Braids are comprised of fleece strips which are approximately 2 to 3 inches wide

Enlarge photo 19

The horizontal braids were woven under and over the vertical braids and then tied with thin fleece strips at each junction

The finished product.  Made entirely out of strips of fleece which I braided to give stability.

Little Stevie examining his fleece Get-A-Grip

I decided to use fleece because it is soft in case he should fly into it and because there are no 'sharps' to poke him in the eye

Stevie is looking more beautiful every time I see his pictures. He really is a wonder bird. I have a huge soft spot for handicap Parrots. I have a few myself. Just lost a 24 and half year old blind Cockatiel on Saturday. Heartbreaking!!
Good luck with him..
