TitleLarry Hanes
DescriptionLarry Hanes Obituary
Larry Dewayne Hanes, 78, of Amarillo, TX passed away June 12, 2024.
Larry was born on June 26, 1945 to Sam and Anita Hanes in Amarillo. At a young age, Larry was already driven to stay active and busy. He started delivering newspapers well before he could even read them at age 6. Staying in the Amarillo area, he attended and graduated from Tascosa High School.
As a young man, Larry was interested in how things worked. This passion led him to attend Texas Tech, receiving his Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering. Larry met and married the love of his life, Neila Ritchie on December 16, 1966 in Amarillo, TX. Larry loved to work, keeping active and constantly busy. He was the guy you called on to fix any and everything. If he didn’t know how to do it, he would quickly figure it out. Larry was also an avid reader, happy to keep his mind agile. He liked learning and delved into a wide range of subjects of interest. He especially loved studying the Bible and history.
But most important, Larry loved his family, especially his grandchildren. His dedication and commitment to them wasn’t a feeling to be guessed or hidden. Larry showed up. If there was an event, he was available. His heart was open and all felt the love. Larry will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister Colleen Robinson.
Survivors include his wife, Neila; his daughter, Tana Young of Amarillo; his son, Steven Hanes and wife, Kristi of Amarillo; his 7 grandchildren, Tyler Hanes and fiancé Jenny Wood; Jordan Hanes; Brittany Hanes; Kirstie Hanes; Easlynn Hanes; Bryton Sieker and fiancé Michael Monroe; Bethany Sieker all of Amarillo; his two great-grandchildren Kaelynn and Kenny. Survivors also include his sister Connie Wood of San Antonio, and a host of extended family and dear friends.
A private family burial will be held. Arrangements are under the direction of Cox-Rowley Funeral Home.
