I went to Palo Duro Canyon for some weekend mountain biking and mountain climbing and hiking in the canyon. These are some of the pictures.

This photo and the next were taken after a gruelling climb to the top of this 400 foot cliff. Our campground is in the valley below. Besides the fear factor of climbing these cliffs, there is also an abundance of rattlesnakes and stinging scorpions so we had to be very careful with each step and each time we put our hands upon the rocks above our heads to pull up to another ledge. We also discovered that running shoes are not good for climbing.
This formation is called The Lighthouse. It is 310 feet high. Matt and I rode in by mountain bike on Friday. Saturday Matt, Lisa, and I hiked six miles round trip to get there. We were plenty tired when we got back to the campsite.
This picture and the next are near the top of The Lighthouse. Matt climbed another 100' verticle to the top. I didn't have the nerve to climb to the point where Matt is here. There was nothing to hold onto and you can see that any missed step would result in a sudden drop. Another daring soul took this picture.

Too bad this picture does not show depth perception. It is much higher than it looks in this picture. If you look closely, you can see Matt on the edge at the top of The Lighthouse. It was very windy up there.
Lisa, Matt, and Skip by the campfire. Matt cooked some great hamburgers and we roasted marshmallows afterward.
