Cavy Cages is a Guinea Pig Cages website providing information on proper guinea pig cages and sizes. Before you buy a cage, check out this website. The Cubes and Coroplast design is superior in many ways. If you have any questions, please post them on the Cavy Cages Forum. Feel free to post comments in the guest book and on individual photos, but please post questions on the forum.
This album focuses on ONE RAMP DESIGN that is VERY EASY-to-MAKE, SAFE, EASY-to-CLEAN, provides MAXIMUM FLOOR SPACE, and is NOT TOO STEEP for your guinea pigs. They will use this ramp and you can make it in a snap or a bend.

New Easy Ramp Design Simple, guinea pig-friendly, no tools required, easy-to-clean. This design works best on a 2x4 grid-sized cage or higher (as shown). A 2x3 technically works, but the guinea pigs wouldn't be able to go through the lower grid; it would butt up against the end of the cage. “I'll do some more design exploring b...” –Emily“This is really the best ramp design ...” –stephy“can they gat all the way up that fir...” –xcvbxcb“Your cavies must be very strong to b...” –guinemon pigster“That is a very good idea! Is the ram...” –KateandJeff
2 bent grids form the structure The lower grid has no slope. The upper grid only has a 2-hole slope. The steps are easy for guinea pigs to navigate and the slope is gentle--not scary. “I don't see how the pigs climb up on...” –Kelly Garvin“I don't see how the pigs climb up on...” –Kelly Garvin“ARE THERE ANY PIGGIES WHO DO JUMP OU...” –hannah
Upper Deck A plush bath mat makes the run up and down the ramp very easy and pleasant for the guinea pigs. It also creates a smooth transition over the steps between grids. A little food bribery should be all you need to encourage your cavies to make the trek.
End view They very easily hop up to the first level. INITIALLY, I moved the low box right next to the ramp so they could use that as a lower platform. But within just a few tries of getting on the ramp, they preferred to hop up, so I moved the box over. “I've read that piggies could break t...” –Joana“how do they get on the ramp?” –patch

Grid placement The lower grid is attached just above the 6" high Coroplast wall at the 4th grid hole up from the bottom. The upper grid is attached 2 grid holes higher than the first with a slope of just 2 grid holes. “That so cool and it saves $ but don'...” –anna“This might be a dopey question, but ...” –Angie“what a cute little piggie!!!” –mimi
Lower grid The lower grid is attached with two cable ties at each end which, while snug, allow enough play to allow the grid to be angled up for cleaning. “that is a good idea!” –Meghan
Lower grid is moveable for cleaning Part of the trick to ramps is making them easy to clean. You can hold it up while cleaning, or clip it out of the way with a binder clip. “I love your pig! *-*” –Claire
Moving the lower grid up It is very easy to move to clean. “your piggies are so sweet!” –mimi“love your pigs the are so adorable!” –Meghan“I LIKE THE PIGS!!!” –brendan
Ready to clean The lower grid is clipped up out of the way for cleaning. We are using a binder clip to hold the grid up. Lots of access to the entire area.
Close up of grid out of the way Another view of how easy it is to clean the area.
Binder clip holding lower grid Here is a binder clip holding the grid out of the way for cleaning. You can leave the clip attached on the top of the wall grid when you are not using it.
Lower grid attached with cable ties The lower grid is attached with two cable ties. Leave enough play to angle the grid up but make the connection solid.
Upper grid slope The upper grid is attached with 3 cable ties and is VERY secure. The slope is 2 grid holes. Two cable ties are attached on the left side. The 3rd cable tie is attached on the right end.
