Forced to change our plans due to an ash cloud from Mt St. Helens, we headed to the rugged Pasayten Wilderness as an
alternate destination. It was a great trip to some of the most beautiful backcountry ridge walking anywhere. If only you
didn't have to climb almost 4000 feet in a day to get to it.

June is not the best time to do a backpacking trip in the Cascades, as we discovered on this trip. The high country was still covered in snow, the creeks were raging with the snowmelt, and the trails were wet and muddy.

Mini-Miler from the White River trailhead near Lake Wenatchee, up and over Boulder Pass, down to the Napeequa River, up and over Little Giant Pass (Don't ever want to go over Big Giant!), and down to trails end at the Chiwawa river.

Our monthly outing was a trip to Spider Meadow. It was raining in Lynnwood when we left but the weather was pretty good with only a few showers and a lot of sun breaks, which is the best you can hope for in mid October.
