This is the nearly complete cage with guinea pig. All it needs now is some Americana design on the bottom. The corrugated plastic for the top level came from a damaged campaign sign which was donated to the cause. It gave me the idea to go with the Americana theme.
| This shows how the cut grid was done for the ramp to fit. I cut a 6x4 square section out of it and filed down the sharp edges. Bending the 4 square piece upward as sort of a guard. Be careful when bending grid sqares. If not done on one bend only they might snap and break.
A view of the ramp from above, with the corrugated plastic in place. The guard by the side of the food bowl is made of doubled corrugated plastic and taped on the bottom of the form.
| A view looking down the ramp. The clearance was about 5 or 6 inches. In the picture the ramp has some of that grip material to help the pigs get traction up the ramp. It is held in place with double-stick tape.
A view of underneath the ramp. This has become one of Reuben's favorite places to nap. This photo also shows how there is an open space behind the ramp. In fact the entire outer edge of this cage has nothing blocking the lap running of young active pigs. My pig loves to run in circles around the ramp and hay bin.
| A side view of the cage. If you look close you can see Reuben hiding in there somewhere.
The hidey house is made from a bucket purchased at Walmart. I cute a door in one side and put chew guards on the edges of it. They are made from poster frame edges.
| Reuben is drinking from the upstairs water bottle and you can also clearly see the little window I added on the top level in front of the food bowls. This helps me see them when they are eating and I am at the computer which sits right next to the cage.
The next pictures were taken after the Americana stickers were added. I wanted something quick and simple, and not as much color on the bottom as on the top.
| A close-up showing half of the front window made from acrylic and taped into place with clear-packing tape.
A popular Texas bumper sticker. It is the state's slogan for reminding people not to throw trash on the highways. Looks as if somebody in Reuben's cage already messed with Texas.
| These stickers are on the opposite side as the bumper sticker.
Close-up of the cute little hay bin I got at a dollar store. It is some kind of plant holder. It is secured with replaceable black duct tape.
| Picture of the hay rack with hay after the bedding material was in place.
Full view of the new cage Reuben (a nuetered boar) now occupies with Sienna, his "wife" (cage mate). The ribbon around the edges of the cubes was purchased for 50 cents on clearance at a cloth store.
