I used deep terracotta dishes you put plant pots in (without the hole in the middle).

These are the paints that I use to paint the bowls.

This is the varnish that I use to seal the bowl. I varish the whole bowl, even the bottom.  Use a high gloss varnish that is suitable for both indoor and outdoor use.  I put on three layers so it is nice and protected against water and so it can be easily washed up.

Prime or paint them using a good paint. I used white, but any colour will do if its a good quality paint.

Add your detail and extra colour etc.  I used a fan brush and a little paint to try and chieve a "washed" effect around the bowl.

Finished painted bowls with the names of my piggies inside as well as some veggies!

Linda Lee's painted bowl: Linda Lee's first attempt at making a hand-painted bowl. Corn, grapes, and a cute guinea pig decorate the inside of the bowl.
