John, here are some shots of our tentative hotel choice for Venice booked for six nights 7/13-7/19.It is located on Lido island described as: Lido island is a narrow strip of land about seven miles long, separating the Venetian Lagoon from the Adriatic Sea. This quaint resort-like island is 15-20 minutes from the heart of Venice, Piazza S. Marco by waterbus. The Lido Beach is one of the nicest and best serviced in Europe.
In contrast to dense pack summer Venice proper this hotel provides a high level of crowdless comfort. It offers such as decorated rooms, A/C and morning garden buffet breakfast and has an excellent 'user' rating. It also 'requires' that we enjoy a daily 15-20 minute boat ride to the Venice canals and local sightseeing stops.

Picture us on this daily boat to the Venice canals
Looks nice, I will check it out. Guidebooks recommend being in the middle of sights, but I fancy commuting by boat, especially in Venice. - ian, Wed, 16 Jan 2008 6:14PM
