I am in the process of moving these photos to my new site, and all updated information will also show up there.  Thanks for looking.

I look forward to sharing the idea of combining our beautiful hardwoods from Central Pennsylvania with the simple elegance of the Shaker style box.
Most pieces are made to measured drawings of actual Shaker boxes, while others are variations using the same oval bands to form useful carriers and trays.
Most of the boxes are made with wood salvaged from storm damaged trees or through local tree care services.  Each piece comes with a card including care instructions and also some brief information on the tree it was made from.
I am trying to include more of the woods that I am currently working with and the history of the trees.  It is such a privilege to get to work with pieces that are a part of our local history and I hope you enjoy the information about thee trees.

A small sampling of my work.

I make all sizes and styles of boxes from Cherry.  Boxes made from other woods depend on the size of pieces that I able to get or how the wood bends.

Something New for 2009

Shelves are made using solid boards each having some very interesting grain.  I have cut all of the boards on my bandsaw mill and utilize some of the live edges on these pieces.

Preparing lumber for boxmaking
4. Preparing lumber for boxmaking
Using a small wood-mizer bandsaw mill allows me to use locally salvaged hardwoods.  Most of the wood that I get to work with, comes from storm damaged trees, tree care services, or trees being removed from local properties that would end up as firewood or at the landfill.

My hobby
9. My hobby
To get away from the woodworking and still work with my hands, I have found an interest in the old Aermacchi Harley Davidsons.  It is also nice to just go for a short ride and relax.

White Oak Burl
10. White Oak Burl
This large burl came from a wooded property near State College, and was cut in 2008.  I hope to have it dried and possibly make some small tables from the 2" thick pieces in the next year.

Boxmaking demos
11. Boxmaking demos
I enjoy demonstrating at any of the retail shows when possible.  The bands are soaked in water at 180 degrees, then bent around the oval forms and fastened with copper tacks.  This makes for a very interesting demo and some some good conversation about woodworking.
