Matanzas Bay
Matanzas is the Spanish word for slaughter. Matanzas Bay in St Augustine is the place where in 1565, the Spaniards slaughtered a colony of French Hugenots in St. Augustine, and threw their bodies into the bay.

The Italians Arrive
At first, I was confused about the flag the vessel was carrying. I thought it was the Mexican flag, not unusual since Sarasota is in the Gulf of Mexico, and parts of Mexico are withing this vessel's cruising range. Upon closer inspection, it turns out to be the flag of Italy depicting the four maritime republics: Venice (represented by the lion of St. Mark the evangelist, top left), Genoa (top right), Amalfi (bottom left), and Pisa (represented by their respective crosses).
