Makayla, Casey, Aislinn and Riley are now 9 weeks old.  Joe and I can't even imagine where the time has gone.  All four of these puppies are in full out terrier mode, as they are having a blast with people/dog socialization, continued sound socialization and just pure fun playing and inventing games as they play each day.  We have introduced some basic clicker training, and the pups traveled to California where several individuals assisted us in puppy evaluations.  We conducted temperament testing here.

Based on those results:

Makayla will be staying with us here at Miracle.  This girl has so much spunk and attitude, she is a terrier with a capital T.  We are excited to see her grow.

Riley is heading north, way north to Cheryl Hewitt.  Like her sister she is a spunky AHT.  We love her front and rear angulation; very nice head, but she will lose her tan :-)

Casey may be available.  We are looking for a very special placement for him, as we think he exemplifies the very best of Macree and Rowen. 

Aislinn is available.  She will be in the 13 1/2" range, but she has an excellent front and rear as her sisters and brother do.

We are having a terrific time with the puppies.  Activities include sound desensitization, socialization with other dogs and lots and lots of humans.  The pups are exploring different areas of the house and outdoors under very close supervision.  We have taken a few car rides to get them used to travel.  We are very pleased with them.

Weights at 6.5 weeks are

Riley                  3 lbs 11 ounces

Makayla              4 lbs 2 ounces

Aislinn                3 lbs 7 ounces

Casey                 4 lbs 2 ounces

The puppies are now in their big play area, and having a blast. They are growing by leaps and bounds, and are responding very well to all elements of our program. We are seeing temperaments emerge and we are excited so far in what we see conformationally.

Weights at 4.5 weeks

Casey                              3 pounds

Makayla                          3 pounds 1 ounce

Riley                               2 pounds 11 ounces

Aislinn                            2 pounds 9 ounce

At this point, all pups are show/breed potential.

Jeepers creepers, where did you get those peepers?

Puppies are doing fantastic. They are responding very well to all sections in our specialized puppy program. Weights of the puppies are as follows:

1.  Casey -  (male)               1 pound 10.5 oz

2.  Riley - (female)            1 pound 6.5 oz

3.  Makalya - (female)       1 pound 9.5 oz

4.  Aislinn - (female)         1 pound 5 oz

Canine Developmental Notes:

The beginnning of the third week of life is one of the most important ones in their canine development.  During this week, they begin their transformation from newborn insulated from the outside world to a social dog that can see, hear and interface with humans and other dogs.  Prior to this week, the puppies had no sense of place, but now each puppy is becoming aware of its nest and the other puppies in the whelping box. Their eyes have just opened and it will take five weeks for their adult coloration to become clear.  At this stage, the puppies visual system is not fully functional.  They cannot detect sudden movemets, and it is not until the puppy is 28 days of age, can the puppy distinguish forms clearly.  This is such a pivotal week, as by the time the pups are 20 days old, they will engage in activies such as sight, hearing, walking and will be able to eliminate by themselves.  While these skills are immature, it is a critical stage of canine development and care must be taken in the everyday tasks and stimulation offered each puppy.

'PR' Miracle's Whisper in Wind (aka Riley) Black sabled red female. Birth weight 6.0 oz, current weight 9.65 oz. Dedicated to Bobby, who returned to the Lord in the last days of his life.  If we only listen, we can hear Jesus calling us, as He called Bobby.

'PR'Miracle's Courage Under Fire (aka Casey) Black sabled red male. Birth weight 6.7 oz, current weight 11.00 oz.  My brother is my hero; he only had weeks to live after his diagnosis; everyone thought he had more time.  He was brave and only thought of his wife and children. 

'PR' Miracle's Ransom From Heaven (aka Makayla) Black, tan, white female.  Birth weight 7.35 oz, current weight 12 oz. I know Bobby rests in the arms of Jesus, who paid the ultimate price for our salvation.

'PR' Miracle's Stargazer's Dream (aka Aislinn) Heavy Black Sabled Red female.  Birth weight 6.0 oz, current weight 9.6 oz.   Bobby was born 100 years too late.  He loved to hunt, fish and camp as far away from civilization as possible.  He loved sleeping under a starlit sky.
