Friends Of Unwanted Rabbits (August 26, 2004)F.U.R. The Friends Of Unwanted Rabbits (FUR) is run by volunteers who rescue rabbits from the Sacramento County Animal Care & Regulation. FUR is supported by the non-profit affiliate of Sacramento County Animal Care & Regulation, Teaching Everyone Animals Matter (TEAM). All rabbits are spayed/neutered, litter box trained, and socialized before being housed at PetsMart Adoption Centers. Rabbits are adopted to carefully screened indoor homes by FUR volunteers.
Rabbits in Foster Care are also available for adoption, unless otherwise noted.
If interested in adopting any of the rabbits at the Folsom Petsmart located at 2375 Iron Point Road 2705 East Bidwell Street
Please call (916) 710-0105 and leave a message. Please speak your name and phone number slowly & repeat it. You can expect a response within 48 hours but please be patient as we are volunteers. NOTE: When using a cell phone inside of Petsmart to call our message line often the phone cuts out so we are not able to understand phone numbers or names. Please go outside to make your calls. Also ADULTS ONLY should be calling. Often when a child calls it is difficult to understand the phone number or the child simply forgets to leave the phone number. This is a message line only.If you do not receive a call back please email us at teamfur@gmail.com. The message line is checked once a day so if a message is left at 3:00pm but the message line was checked at 12:00pm, your message is not going to be heard until the next day. Our volunteers might be with an interested adopter that scheduled an appointment so your call might not be returned right away. We are volunteers, please be patient and know that our goal is to find the rabbits forever loving homes. If you are the first person who leaves a message with interest in a rabbit then you are first in line so you will be contacted first and after going through our screening process have the opportunity to adopt if approved.

Sacramento County Shelter Rabbits (May 10, 2004)3839 Bradshaw Rd. Sacramento, CA (916)875-5232 http://www.acr.saccounty.net *Note: There are usually more rabbits at the shelter than currently pictured here. Pictures are updated approximately 1-2 times per week.
UPDATE: THIS SHELTER IS OVER FILLED WITH RABBITS. PLEASE DON'T DUMP YOUR RABBIT!!!! IT WILL END UP EUTHANIZED (KILLED)!!!!
TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOUR PET! DO NOT SEND IT TO IT'S DEATH BY DUMPING AT A SHELTER, THERE IS NO ROOM! THEY WILL PUT YOUR RABBIT DOWN!!! THEY DO NOT HAVE STAFF TO CARE FOR THE RABBITS! RABBITS IN SHELTERS ARE "SECOND CLASS CITIZENS" THEY ARE NOT TREATED AS WELL OR GIVEN AS MUCH TIME AS DOGS AND CATS ARE GIVEN. DO NOT SET IT LOOSE AS IT WILL BE KILLED.
Read below what FUR can do to help you find a new home for your unwanted rabbit instead of taking it to a shelter.
THIS SHELTER ONLY HAS ROOM TO HOUSE 6 RABBITS AT A TIME. The FUR program does not have room to rescue anymore rabbits until we get some adoptions. Please consider adopting one of these lovely rabbits from the shelter.
BEFORE DUMPING A RABBIT at a shelter where it more then likely will be euthanized, consider emailing a picture and description of the rabbit to teamfur@gmail.com. The Friends of Unwanted Rabbits (FUR) will place the rabbits picture on their website, www.teamfur.org, along with your contact information. Anyone interested in adopting the rabbit will contact you directly. Folks looking for rabbits are familiar with the FUR website. Your rabbit will get more exposure and will have a better chance at being adopted as opposed to dying at a shelter due to a lack of space. For more information call the FUR message line 916-710-0105 or email teamfur@gmail.com.
Rabbits make wonderful indoor pets and are easily litter box trained. They are very social and there are many dangers outdoors, preditors that can kill them, they can escape easily through small spaces, and they cannot be out doors if it is over 80 degrees, why because a rabbits internal tempature is between 101 to 103 degrees. Call FUR at 916-710-0105 and leave a message for a volunteer to call you and answer your rabbit care related questions.
Consider alternative's to dumping rabbits at a shelter. The FUR program will help find new homes but cannot take the rabbits in to the program. The owner will have to house the rabbits until we can help find new homes. This is a Win Win situation, the rabbits are safe from euthanasia and the owner can feel good about taking responsibility for finding their rabbit a new home.
If your interested in volunteering to work with the rabbits call 916-710-0105 and leave a message. |

Private Party Adoptable Rabbits (October 13, 2005)The FUR program promotes responsible pet rabbit ownership; however, often times we are contacted by people who for one reason or another can no longer care for their rabbit. The FUR program rescues rabbits directly from Sacramento County Animal Care & Regulation and Yolo County and therefore, cannot take in rabbits directly from the public. In an attempt to help prevent rabbits from being dumped at shelters, we have created this album to assist the public in finding good homes for their rabbit. If your interested in any of the rabbits, please contact the person posted in the listing. If you need assistance on how to care for a rabbit, please contact us at 916-710-0105. Leave your name and address and we will mail you information on how to care for a rabbit. |
