Colin's Flat Stanley Lancaster Trip (April 29th, 2009). Flat Stanley from St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic School in Burlington, Ontario was off on yet another awesome adventure with Uncle Denis. This time around, Flat Stanley traveled back to 1945 aboard Bad Penny, participating in the first food drop of Operation Manna, a plan hatched by the Royal Air Force to feed the 3 1/2 million starving citizens of Holland. His adventure started off as a simple tour on board a Canadian built Lancaster bomber, but he soon found himself attired in flight gear, learning first hand about Operation Manna from the nose blister of the huge aircraft on April 29, 1945. . |

Flat Stanley (April 20th, 2007). Flat Stanley is a project of Nicholas, a Gr. 2 student at Saint Elizabeth Seton Catholic School in Burlington, Ontario. Nicholas asked his Uncle Denis, a pilot with the Canadian Historical Aircraft Association in Windsor, to take Flat Stanley on an adventure, then return him by mail so that Ms. Freeman's class could share in Flat Stanley's experience. Each student sent their own Flat Stanley off on an adventure! Nicholas' Flat Stanley actually had two awesome adventures with Uncle Denis! The first was aboard an historic 1941 Boeing Stearman open cockpit biplane, and the second was aboard a 1950 DeHavilland of Canada DHC-1 Chipmunk. The following photographs were taken by Mr. George Mock. . |

Lancaster (January 15, 2005). Lancaster FM212 is located in Windsor, Ontario, Canada in a beautiful setting in the Lancaster Rose Gardens. I had the privilege of being invited inside the fuselage by the truly devoted volunteers that try to maintain this wonderful airplane. Windsor lost 433 airmen during WWII. This is a tribute to them. A crew of seven, wingspan 102 feet length 69 1/2 feet, cruised at 185 to 225mph. Of the 7377 Lancaster's built, 3932 were lost. 55,000 Aircrew including 10,000 Canadians were killed. . . |
