Ariel (December 14, 2005)Four Paws Little Miss Ariel, CGC was our first UKC registered Rat Terrier and became a lifetime companion as well as one of our foundation dogs. Ariel passed over to Rainbow Bridge in April 2009.
Ariel is the reason we became "owned" by this precious breed and devoted our life to breed recognition, the preservation, promotion, and betterment of the Rat Terrier.
I purchased Ariel in 1994 and was thrilled to own my first "official" pedigreed Rat Terrier. I was surprised to learn they were not yet breed UKC or AKC recognized. I then decided to become involved in the breed acceptance process.
I started researching who owned Rat Terriers and met Pam Mills in California. We started corresponding by mail (PC's were just beginning to be used then). I met several other Rat Terrier owners throughout the United States in this manner and we begun to work as a community to seek and receive breed recognition.
Ariel was a great breed ambassador, attending pet expos, playdays, fun matches and participated in the local parades. She was one of the first Rat Terriers to earn both a AKC Fun match title and her CGC. She also was photographed and used widely in magazines and calendars.
Ariel was retired prior to UKC breed recognition in January of 1999. I never had the opportunity to show her at UKC, only in AKC sanctioned matches, Playdays, Fun Matches, and Rare Breed shows.
Ariel produced some offspring that became the foundation stock for other kennels.
Ariel was vet checked for patellas, cardiac, hips, and LCP, by our veternarian prior to breedings.
**Ariel passed over to Rainbow Bridge on Saturday, April 4, 2009. She was the best friend anyone could ever ask for. She is gone but NEVER to be forgotten. Ariel, I am honored to have been owned by you. In memory, gratitude, devotion and total LOVE, I will miss you my best friend!** |
