On Saturday March 20, 2004 the Yale Club of Hong Kong had a "Bon Voyage Bob Bonds!" hike on Lamma Island, Bob's last hike with us before he moves to Weisbaden, Germany on March 31.

Alex Chan and Nick Perensovich
Greg Blumenthal with his wife, Amanda Chen and, riding shotgun, their little son, Jason.
In the stroller, Brian, and peeking out next to him his big sister, Valerie. And their mom, Carol, in the white cap.
Bob shakes hands with little Brian. But he couldn't convince him to change places.

Bob explains life to Nelson.
You see this "danger" sign on some of the steeper Hong Kong trails. John Cox had t-shirts designed with this logo, see the next two pictures.
Bob & Nelson model the Yale Club of Hong Kong Hiking Drinking & Dining Society t-shirts. Above the falling-man graphic is our YCHKHD&DS motto, "Lux et Gravitas".
Can you spot the difference between this photo and the previous one?
Off we go.
We'll be on a dirt path soon enough.
Drake Pike takes a picture of himself.
Amanda, Jason, Greg.
Nelson floats down the trail.
The road part of the hike didn't last too long. Fortunately that stroller is lightweight and folds up.
Our group, with a beautiful view of the Lamma power-plant smokestacks behind us.
Nelson kindly took the same pic as the previous one so that Drake could be in the group photo too.
Hey Jason, not a bad life!
Walking into the high hills of central Lamma.
Part of our group against the skyline.
Halfway through the hike, looking east toward the fishing village of Luk Chau Tsuen, and the Lamma Channel. In the distance, Hong Kong Island.
The central Lamma hills.
Alex and Gloria Chan. Our fearless leader John Cox points to what? the nearest beer stand, maybe.
Sam Wong, with children Valerie and Brian.
A peaceful Jason deep asleep on Daddy's back.
Alex & Gloria wait to see if Bob, Amanda and Greg make it, before proceeding.
Up to the local high point.
At one of the trig points, concrete posts placed at the top of high hills throughout the territory of Hong Kong.
Carol, Amanda, Gloria facing the camera. Looks like a high-fashion photo shoot!
Sam & Brian come join the pack.
It was cool on the mountain top, so Valerie gets her jacket put on.
Another Drake pic.
Sam & Brian. Maybe 30 years from now Brian will return the favor and carry his Daddy!
Carol carries Brian. (Sam didn't do all the carrying!)
Valerie confidently leads the way down the hill.
Nick leads the way while Jason sleeps soundly on Greg's back.
It's a little steep & slippery here.
Gloria leads the way down a loose-gravel slope, follwed by Alex, Bob, and John.
Great smile, Alex!
You too, Bob!
A view toward Luk Chau. On the other side of that peninsula is Sok Kwu Wan, our destination.
That little island is also called Luk Chau. This is looking east, back in the direction toward Hong Kong Island.
Amanda picks up the pace.
...followed by the rest of us.
Gloria, and behind her the Lamma Channel and the Aberdeen section of southwest Hong Kong Island.
We were on a hunt for an ancient stone circle. This wasn't it, but it may be another stone circle. And there's that unavoidable power plant.
Taking a break.
On the hunt for the stone circle, with John Cox in the lead.
Followed by the rest of us.
Found it! John Cox measures the stone circle, the measurements conform to the mention of an ancient stone circle in a book he has.
John explains our next moves: Go find the WWII Japanese cave (sorry, no pic of that), then off to Sok Kwu Wan.
On the steps up past the Lamma quarry. Bob, Nick, Alex, Gloria, and everyone else.
That's our destination, the village of Sok Kwu Wan. We had a late lunch/early dinner in an open air seafood restaurant just to the right of the righthand pier in this photo.
The Lamma quarry, now apparently closed down.
Banyan tree on the approach to the village of Sok Kwu Wan.
The Sok Kwu Wan village square.
The hike's nearly over now.
the end of our hike at Sok Kwu Wan, on Lamma Island.
Brian gets ready to dig in.
Valerie hides from the camera.
Chow time!
John Cox in the foreground, Bob Bonds, and Greg & Amanda.
In the bamboo steamer are delicious Chaozhou dumplings "fen gok".
Sok Kwu Wan Harbor at sunset.
From the Rainbow Seafood boat which takes customers back to Hong Kong, looking back at the open air seafood restaurants at Sok Kwu Wan.
The sun sinks slowly in the west, another fine hiking day draws to an end on Lamma Island.
...and one last goodbye to the Lamma power plant.
