This is an open cab trail truck Dad and I are working on. Plans are: small block/automatic & NP200, disc brakes, lockers, power steering, roll cage, shortened pickup box, cut down doors, 11.00 Michelins or Boggers and some very light springs! Nothing fancy(shiney) or expensive, just a good solid basic trail truck made up from parts I already have.

The WC parts truck when I got it home. Lots of good parts for Kim's truck.
Rear of parts truck
Other side
Got everything I wanted off of it and sold a few things to others for the projects. Not much left.
PW cab and front sheet metal set in place, the rear springs are moved back apx 6 inches for a little longer wheelbase.
More of truck with top still in place.
Top cut off! cab squared up and setting right, radiator and support rods tightened down to check the fit of everything.
front view
left side
right side. longer wheelbase.
got it in Dad's shop, time to start doing a little measuring for the V8/auto swap
left side
V8 and auto bolted in place, test fitting the sheetmetal to see if all our measuring paid off
Every thing looks good so far
View of short tailshaft 727 and crossmember from 70's powerwagon. cross member is bolted to frame, had to trim the ends and narrow it apx. 2". this setup left me with about 10" from tranny to transfer case(two speed out of power wagon), just enough for a real short drive shaft.
Here is the short driveshaft, a little creative cutting and filing and I made it up out of yokes I already had. It will collapse apx. 1.5" so it will come out from between the tranny and t/c for repairs if there is is a problem with out having to pull one of the two.
727 & NP200 coupled together in a WC chassis(same deminsions as a PW from T/C forward, so it would be the same to do this set-up in a PW)
I decided the distributor was a little close to the firewall so I cut a relief for a little more room.
>>>This was not necessary, the distributor cleared just fine the way it was, but, this is a trail truck and it will get really flexed and I did'nt want to have a cap crack in a really twisted situation.
Relief cut and boxed in the back of the cab to clear the third crossmember on a WC frame. This would not need to be done on a PW.
Checking to see how much to cut off the frame horns. At this point were are thinking of setting the winch up with a reciever tube type of mount so it can be moved front to rear, that way we can have a better approach angle.
Just about ready to take it apart and roll it out for pressure washing and/or sandblasting. Then a little paint on the frame and axles.
transmission cooler and electric fan set-up.(thats Dad, Dwight Sr. giving his stamp of approval) the winch is just sitting there, that is not how it will end up.
The michelins and combat wheels waiting to be painted and put together.
Frame and running gear all cleaned up and painted. Front of frame cut off and boxed. P/S and transmission lines ran(in a protective covering)
Motor after presure washing(much more fun to work on all clean) and firewall done.
Top of cab boxed and dressed. stiil using the original hinge set-up for the crank out windshield.
another view
back of cab where we cut it, now time to box it and finish it out.
inside of cab before seats and paint
power brake set-up and pedal hung
mocking the bed in place(I think it needs to be raised an inch or so)
another angle showing the bed and a shot of the interior(sort of)
another view(gotta get the michelins mounted and on the truck so it looks right)
Swap meet find. Could'nt pass this one up!
Transfer case levers to opperate the np200 behind the automatic
dune buggy type seats to work with the five point harness set-up
dash with easy to read gauges, the bare essentials.
Close-up of dash. The gauge on the left is trans temp.
other side
11.00 michelins on combat wheels mounted(truck will probably be flat black with the red wheels for that "rat-rod" look)
quarter view
again
from above
front ( the small lights on the frame are there because the fenders will be set-up with a plug for the headlights so they can be removed easily for tight trails)
rear( this is before I've put in a centered rear axle I got from Dan Shockley, I pick it up this weekend at the Tx PW reunion from George Scott)
Quarter view
Got the doors on and brought it to the house for some finish work and make ready for a trailride
From across the street
Bed is still too low
Lots to do still
Bed raised, looks better
Now for headlights, windshield etc etc etc.....
Need to raise the front for a little oil pan clearance

Just about ready for a test run, not finished but close enough to start finding out what needs to be fixed/changed.
Creek crossing during the first trailride. broke a weld in the rearend(Lincoln locker) shortly after leaving camp.
No problem though
The pretty red wheels did'nt last long in the creek crossings
First outing. Broke the weld on the spider gears and fought a little heating problem(200 to 210 while sitting out on the trails). Hard to fix a heating problem in 103 degree temps
Other than a couple of minor things it ran well. It will be MORE than ready for the next rally/trailride! Time for the fuel injection a front locker and a rollcage/seatbelts.

new tires!
38x13-16 swampers on combats
moved the trans cooler to the bed and got rid of the poly race car tank(junk)
a look at the bed layout(not much room)
new gas tank filler neck
may need to bring the filler neck in some to keep it from getting tore off
power brake set-up
ARB compressor behind glove box
up high and out of the way with its own fuse block
the new front axle getting cleaned up for a rebuild
axle
all cleaned up, Dad putting the knucle back together
knuckles installed
I had to grind about an 1/8" of the carrier housing off to clear the reinforcing ribs on the ARB unit
just took a little off at an angle so it would clear and spin freely
assembling the ARB unit
Backlash set and all torqued down ready to install in axle housing
airline fitting..>>>be aware of the brakeline fitting when drilling housing for the airline. I had to space the fitting out about 3/4" so the metal brake line would clear the plastic airline<<<
