Our September outing was a backpacking overnight to Spider Meadow. We did not get our usual camp as it was occupied, so we camped in the meadow on the west side of the stream. Because of the extreme fire season, campfires were not allowed. That did not dampen our spirits however. In the morning, we packed our gear and then did a day hike up to the foot of the Spider Glacier. This is a steep climb, but well worth it for the views down the valley. In all this trip was 15 miles with about 3100 feet of elevation gain, although only about half of that was with the packs on.

After packing up, we all headed up the trail to the foot of the Spider Glacier - a steep trail that is better done as a day hike than one with a full pack. Here Andrew is coming up the trail with Seven Fingered Jack in the background.
