Historic Ordination (November 29, 2003)| On November 29, 2003, Birken Forest Monastery hosted the Upasampada, or Bhikkhu ordination, of Ven. Nanda and Ven. Pavaro. This was the first such ordination held at Birken. It was also an historic occasion for Theravada Buddhism: the first ordination of Canadian-born Bhikkhus, by Canadians, in Canada. Ajahn Pasanno, co-abbot of Abhayagiri monastery, served as their Upajjhaya (preceptor); Birkens abbot, Ajahn Sona is their Acariya (teacher). |
