2009 Hottest Day Of The Year Ride (August 2, 2009)Pictures from the 2009 Hottest Day Of The Year Bicycle Ride. The ride started at the Lucky Lab in NW Portland and we made our way through the streets of North Portland.
The first rest stop included the longest Slip 'n Slide Portland's ever seen - perfect for cooling off on the hot summer day.
The second rest stop included a watermelon eating and seed spiting contest.
At the Finish line we were welcomed with a cool mist and a make-your-own sundae bar. |

The only sensible thing to do on a very HOT day is to soak in a cool refreshing river. We met at the end of the MAX Blue Line in Gresham and rode to Troutdale Park to splash around in the Sandy River. We then rode to Edgefield for food and cold beer! After our stop at Edgefield we rode to the Ruby Junction MAX stop to get home. |

Sunday Parkways allows people to walk, bike run, roll, meet neighbors, and enjoy entertainment in the parks and along the routes.
Opening streets to walking, bicycling, rolling, and roller blading - without having to watch out for cars!
Sunday Parkways are 7-8 mile "temporary parks" along city streets connecting neighborhoods and residents in North, Northeast and Southeast Portland.
A relaxed, non-competitive, FREE event featuring a variety of activities in several parks and along the routes.
Intersections are staffed by volunteers allowing residents to get to and from their driveways, with larger streets supervised by Portland Police Bureau staff and certified flaggers.
Sunday Parkways gives Portlanders a chance to get out and be active right in their own neighborhood. Participants walk, bike, roll, run, stroll, and roller blade along the route to activities in the parks as well as to nearby shops and businesses in the vicinity.
Why?
Sunday Parkways highlights Portland as a walkable and bikeable city. Sunday Parkways is ideal for connecting neighborhoods by bringing people together with healthy activities. Health, transportation, recreation, community, environmental, and safety interests all benefit by partnering to implement Sunday Parkways. |
