Dressing a Galaxy - NYC Runway Show
Wow! Where do I start?! The costumes were amazing to see in person - and even more amazing to see on the runway! There were about 30 I believe, including my personal favorite - the Lake Dress. This dress unfortunately was not going to be featured at the FIDM exhibit because "It only looks good on Natalie" according to Ms Biggar. To see that etheral gown, flowing down the runway was a sight to behold. The dress seems to float, giving the wearer the appearence of floating as well. The colors subtly blending together to give a rainbow illusion. I can only determine that it was made from silks. My other favorite of the evening was the Revelations dress from ROTS. Purple velvet - need I say anymore?! Of course I do, there's more to it than just velvet - there's beading, embroidery, quilting, and cutout designs. Even the rather plain (compared to previous peices) head dress was still ornate in its simplicity. Channel set burgundy crystals along the top, combined with tooling and jewels makes it a beautiful head peice. There is even a trail of crystal beads wound around Padme's braid in the back.

The highlight of my evening was meeting Trisha Biggar herself! What an amazing woman - a true pleasure to talk with. I'm not normally emotional around celebs, I can usually talk to them normally. As soon as I shook Trisha's hand - it was tears of joy for 5 minutes. I have NEVER done that before except for when Will proposed to me . She really is an inspiration to Star Wars costumers around the world.
She has been an inspiration to me when I made the Clone Wars cartoon costumes. I would ask myself "What would Trisha use?". Noticing her love of velvets and silks (also my favorite) I would go from there. I would try to incorperate beading and subtle details without overpowering the look of the costume.

Presenting her with a Rebel Legion Honorary Membership was an experience. I think she was extremely pleased to know how much her work was truly appreciated. I thanked her on behalf of the RL and all my friends on the C&P boards of TFN.

It was a night I will never forget.

Myself and Trisha Biggar - the costume queen herself.  She is now an Honorary Member of the Rebel Legion.  A truely wonderful woman and a pleasure to talk with.  It was great to meet her in person finally :-)

I LOVE this handmaiden costume - but thats because I love purple ;-)

I spy the Nabool Royal Symbol!  It looks like it was etched into the velvet.
The fabric on the skirt looks thin and shiney.  The same fabric is also at the collar of the neck.  However the bodice looks like it might be velvet.

Very interesting cloak design.  There's a slit in the side.  It reminds me of a shawl almost.  Look at the gathers on the sleeves!
There's also a pretty decent shot of the shoe too.

This is what I LOVE about Trisha's work - EVERY sq inch of the costume is gorgeous - even the back!

At full size you can see the robe sleeve detail really well.
The velvet in the cloak looks like its a platinum with a hint of blue.

I like this cloak a LOT.  The design is beautiful in the etching and the shape.  What we've never really noticed before - the long strips hanging in the middle!  This is why its best to see the costumes in motion, on a display it never would have been picked up.

Notice how one of the straps of the cloak got caught up in the skirt, it shows how the skirt wraps :-)

I wonder how many yards of fabric used in this skirt - look at how FULL it is!
Also a great shot of the back!  So thats what the hair looks like in the back!

Will pointed out to me that he noticed the skirt fabric looked like it might be dupioni, but he didn't see very large slubs.  It's a silk for sure, the way it was flowing down the runway, I didn't think it could be anything else.

When you make this full size, you can make out the texture of the blouse fabric.  You can also see the elastic at the top of the arm (above the rings).
The vest looks to be boned!  Notice how the middle of the back kind of bunches ;-)

The colors in this costume are amazing!  I love all the tiny details incorperated into it.  The smocking, beading, embroidery - WOW!

Great shot of the beading!  And to think, I was only 10 feet away this!
Is it just me, or do I see beading on the fold of the robe sleeve as well?

WOW!  The lace overlay was custom made for this dress.  It looks amazing!  I spy more naboo symbols on the bottom of the robe ;-)
There is also a seam (or gather) at the waist of the handmaidens, you can see it peeking out on the left.

The textures on this costume are awesome!  I never really noticed the peaks before.  There's also beading on the back!  if you look at the back area, you can see the back of the dress showing.  There's also a flat black velvet trailing on the bottom.

The back of the robe looks like it was bustled.  There's also a long beaded peice on the back, plus more symbols.

Look at that!  There's an over tunic type thing going on with this dress!  Follow the seams on the hood (starting near the chin) and follow them down.  Notice the shadowing?  Also notice how the seam at the waist doesn't match up ;-)

Enlarge photo 54
54
I spy another shoe ;-)

Enlarge photo 55

The back just proves the over tunic theory!  There's no seam at the neck for the hood either!

The back of the headpeice is great too.

Wow, awesome costumes!  I've never really been a fan of the Red Throne Room dress, but to see it in person gives me a better perspective on it.
The Handmaiden to the right, notice how her skirt base is flipped up, the queen's dress flipped it up as she was walking.  It's so rigid, like its startched to look like that.

It's confirmed, teh back of the corset does not have a closure, which means that it's hidden under the necklace in the front.

Absolutely stunning!  The use of fabrics and embelishments makes this one of my favorites.  The beading at the wrists and collar, the embroidery on the front, the jewelry - all of its is done perfectly.  Trisha BETTER win an award for these costumes!

I'm sorry its washed out, the lights on white fabric don't work that well.  Plus my shutter speed was too slow and let in too much light.

I LOVE Palpatine's costume!  It looks to be made of velvet, linen/wool, suede, and leather.  The inner sleeves look to be made from suede, they have a skin-like texture to them.
