Pippin's former owner took him to her vet for convenience euthanasia, but the vet didn't want to put down a healthy, personable dog, so the owner was asked to sign away her rights, and the vet clinic contacted rescue.

Fortunately, we were able to get him a spot in foster care.

Despite signs of long term neglect, Pippin appeared to be in reasonable condition except for his mouth, teeth, and nails. The wonderful vet hospital gave him a pedicure and dental and removed many bad and loose teeth.

Pippin came to us a little overweight, at a solid 15.7 lbs. (He is down to 14.5 as of mid-May.)

As soon as he got here, he ran all around the yard exploring every inch.

Initially he was much more interested in the environment than in me, but after he got everything checked out he was willing to turn some attention my way.

Turned loose into the backyard for the first time, he thoroughly enjoyed running all round, checking out everything. (Click for a video.)

He has a funny little run, with both back legs working in tandem, but he sure does seem to be enjoying himself. (Click for a video.)

After a few days here, he is more comfortable and completely acclimated to the routine.

Always interested in what I am doing, especially if it might involve treats or pas.

Pippin has done great with all of the other dogs he has met in foster care. He is interested in them but not particularly wanting to engate with them. As long as they leave his food bowl alone while he is trying to eat his dinner, he is friendly and patient.

Pippin is perfectly reliable in terms of housetraining. He will ask to be let out, standing at the door and then, if he doesn't get your attention, either giving a soft woof or a scratch.
