Tom's fine streamliner, Critical Mass II. See more of Tom's ingenuity here!
Tom's Super Stock entry. He did not race this bike.
Tom's Stock entry that he also raced in the 1K TT at 24.52 MPH avg. You can see Tom's FWD patent here!
Tom A's Stock class homebuilt.
Bill rode this VK2 because Dana sold his only Nocom to JV.
My Bacchetta Aero before it got knocked down by a stray baseball!
Foul ball, dude! Fate's revenge for popping Mark's tube.
Tom, steadied by Steve D prepares to launch in 1K TT.
Critical Mass II in 4-lap 1K TT going for 28.22 MPH avg.
Yours truly during 1K TT maxed out @ 30.8 MPH & 190 pulse rate. I blew up with 1-1/2 laps to go but averaged 26.42 MPH. Photos of me courtesy of KCAL 9 cameraman, Leif Stoehr.
Tom T in the 3K pursuit, streamliner duel. Barely edged out by Thomas N at 26.82 MPH vs. 26.96
Tom N in his homebuilt Super Street machine. 27.20 MPH in 1K TT and fatsest lap was 33.2 MPH
3K Pursuit w/ Larry hot on my tail. My road bent was no match for Larry's superior aerodynamics, not to mention his engine.
Straining to keep the Low Lying Larry in my lee who won by 15.6 seconds at 23.52 MPH vs my 22.27
"Agh! He got me." We both had a false finish after some knucklehead yelled, "Race over!" I lost 3 seconds getting back up to speed. Larry said he lost even more time.
"Look ma! I finished the race!" (false finish)
The real finish about 5 laps later.
3K pursuit. "Crash Billy Boy" waves "bye bye" to Mark G who just lapped him.
My view of Marc G while warming up in the circle
Mark W has only been riding his Strada for 10 days. He accelerates hard at the start of his 3K prusuit.
Tom A blasts off after Mark & the race is on....
Mark pours it on...
KCAL 9 catches the 2-man action.
Tom has Mark in his sights and launches his attack.....Mark showed up with low tire pressure and I blew out his rear tire when the gauge on my Topeak road pump stuck at 110PSI and I kept pumping. The explosion blew grass all over Mark's cassette.
Tom about to overtake Mark despite Mark's fresh and properly inflated rear tube. Must have been all that grass lodged in his cassette.
Its's tough passing on the outside of the curves....
Tom finally blows past Mark...Tom won at 22.18 MPH avg vs. Mark's 20.60. Did I mention that Mark had ridden this bike < 10 days?
Larry and Bill hold Steve steady on his "Road Tater".
"NASA, we have liftoff!" Be sure to click "Original" and take note of Steve's highbrow sock motif!
Steve's design is the slickest highracer I've ever seen.
Marc G generously voluteered to sacrifice himself to Steve "The Cannibal" D riding his Cuisinart special. Note: the finely honed, bladed spokes, fresh from the abattoir
Steve didn't really need that Subway tuna sandwich after he had Marc for lunch.
Steve's avg. speed was 25.98 MPH. Marc was not timed since he was just there for fodor.
Marc had done 22.74 MPH against Bill's 21.21 earlier.
It wasn't boring if you were competing. By this time all six spectators had already left and we cheered each other. On the other hand, the weather was gorgeous!
Notice Marc's intense look which never changed. I offered him a Botox sponsorship but he didn't change his expression.
Would you beleive this bike fits inside a pre-'92 Camry? Well, it does!
Marc replies to my sponsorship offer.
End of race day relaxation. 2nd man from left is JV who wore his Bacchetta "Killer Bee" jersey while riding a VK Nocom. Jim used his Corsa as a roof ornament.
